Boots announces 300 store closures with some sites axed next week – full list

Boots UK release their 2022 Christmas advert

Boots has confirmed 300 stores will close its doors across the UK with many shutting down within weeks.

Most of the shops closing have yet to be revealed but dozens of locations have had their fates sealed.

In a blow to locals in Wakefield, two stores in the area will close next week with sites in Glastonbury, Leicester and York soon to follow.

Shops located in Warminster and Woking will follow by the end of the month before a series of closures in November.

This is when shops located in Great Yarmouth, Darlington, Plymouth and Exeter will cease to trade.

Boots stressed that stores closing down were not expected to meet their financial targets.

Closures will mainly impact stores in close proximity to other sites which could provide a lifeline to loyal customers.

However, the move will reduce the companies portfolio from around 2,200 sites to 1,900.

Depsite the move, Boots has confirmed there are no proposed redundancies with plans to move affected workers to other locations.

Earlier this year a Boots explained the strategy was to divert the firms resources where it was most needed.

A spokesperson explained: “Evolving the store estate in this way allows Boots to concentrate its team members where they are needed and focus investment more acutely in individual stores with the ambition of consistently delivering an excellent and reliable service in a fresh and up-to-date environment.”

Earlier this week, a Boots store manager in Oldham took to social media to address concerns the shop could close.

Customers had reported there being “no stock on the shelves” but bosses have confirmed the store would remain open.

Store manager Lisa posted on Facebook: “Hello. Please can I post to make everyone that Boots, Shaw is not closing.

“We are getting asked daily if our shop is closing and I know a lot of our customers are part of this group.”
