What should have been one of the most wonderful moments of a woman’s life has been tainted after her now-fiance proposed to her with a ring she ‘hates’.
The 27-year-old has been with her partner for three years and the couple started discussing marriage 18 months in.
The woman showed her then-boyfriend exactly the kind of ring she wanted: silver or white-gold and nature-inspired with twists in the band that look like leaves – but she received a marquise diamond with round side-stones set in yellow gold.
‘My fiancé proposed to me this weekend, and I feel like I should be over the moon – but I can’t seem to get over the ring,’ she shared on Reddit.
‘We were looking at rings two months ago and I know for a fact he knew what I wanted. He said he was saving up and just wanted to get a promotion to set everything in motion.’
A woman was devastated when her fiancé proposed to her with a ring she ‘hates’ – and revealed how it was the ‘complete opposite’ of her dream jewel

She also shared that the proposal itself was ‘lackluster’ and didn’t evoke any emotions in her at all.
‘My brother dropped a hint that I’d be getting proposed to soon – so I’ve been very excited,’ she said.
Her partner had planned a deer hunting and haunted hotel trip for her birthday so she expected the proposal to be the cherry on top of her ‘perfect’ romantic weekend.
‘He asked me in the middle of the woods during hunting, and said: ‘Will you do the thing with me?’ which is an Avatar: the Last Airbender reference and kind of sweet.
‘But it’s absolutely not how I had hoped and dreamed I’d be proposed to. And the ring is gold. My family thinks it is absolutely beautiful, so why can’t I feel that way too?’
The woman claimed she’d ‘hate’ to be rude – but she also didn’t want to spend the rent of her life wearing a ring she didn’t like.
‘Would I be an a***hole if I told my fiancé I don’t like my ring? Or will I learn to love it in time?’ she asked.

Many blamed the man for not listening to his partner and ‘going rogue’ with the ring.
‘This is why I didn’t keep it secret and let her pick her ring out herself,’ a man said.
‘That ring is beat up, gold, and gaudy,’ a woman wrote. ‘It doesn’t suit your skin tone at all.’
‘Are you settling? Between the low effort proposal and what seems to be a family ring, it really does come across as an obligation proposal. It’s really not that difficult to listen to what your partner wants and find something that fits them,’ one noted.
While others called her ‘selfish’ for not being happy with what she received.
‘I think he should take the ring and leave you,’ a woman wrote. ‘You should be happy he proposed and not b**ching about the ring.’
‘Shallow. You are more in love with the idea of being engaged than actually being engaged. Your marriage won’t last I can see that from a mile away,’ another said.
