Even if it’s the best day of your life, a wedding can also be a costly experience and finding the perfect gown often involves forking out hundreds or even thousands of pounds.

But one budget-savvy bride-to-be, from Manchester, has tried out four dresses from budget fashion retailer Shein, and some of the ‘beautiful’ garments were a lot better than she expected.

Christina Blaney, who goes by @christinatblaney on TikTok made two videos trying on her finds – the first was seen by almost two million people and the second was seen by 850,000.

The retail giant sell a wide variety of clothing on their site, with a host of wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses to choose from, from as little as £29.99.

The first dress Christina tried on was the Plus Cold Shoulder Mesh Wedding Dress, which costs £32.73 from the retailer

The TikToker added that for context, she is a size 12 and her height is five foot three – and she ordered everything in a size large.

Although she said the skirt was ‘lovely,’ it wasn’t a winner for the bride-to-be and was the worst of the four she tried.

Twirling around to show viewers, she said ‘Okay, so this is what this one looks like. I am standing on something so you can see the full length.

‘This is the back of it and this is the veil with it too. So my issue with this one is that it’s very baggy around here so if you did want this one you’d probably need a lot of alterations.’

She grabbed at the loose material around the stomach area before adding: ‘Also this off the shoulder bit looks rather cheap and a bit like a cloud, and then these little thin straps, I feel like they’d break off half way through the day.’

There was however some praise as she concluded: ‘The skirt is lovely, the material underneath feels really soft and nice but yeah this one is an absolute no, you can’t get away with this for your wedding.’

Moving on to dress number two, Christina opted for the Solid Ruched Wedding Dress, which costs just £38.99.

She gushed ‘I just love all these layers it really makes it feel quite expensive, even when it’s not’

More impressed with this option, she said ‘It looks like there’s dozens and dozens of layers of lace and it moves so nicely.

‘This is what it looks like from the back. Actually I do really like this one.’

Pointing to the bust, sahe said: ‘There are some things, it’s sort of a little bit see through there, you can see these pads but if you wore a white bra underneath you probably wouldn’t see that.

‘I just love all these layers it really makes it feel quite expensive, even when it’s not.

‘The back of it’s really neat where the zip is, I think it’s just really well-made for the price.

‘If you had a push-up bra and had it professionally altered to your shape, you could actually get away with this one – yeah, I like it.’

The third dress Christina tried was the Contrast Lace Mermaid Hem Satin Wedding Dress Without Veil, with will set you back only £37.99.

Showing off to the camera, she explained  ‘This is what the satin one looks like on and as you can see, the technical advances I’ve gone to – I’m stood on top if an upturned mop bucket just cause I’m so short and I wanted to see the full length of it.

She said: ‘I think it could be absolutely beautiful because if you’ve got the figure for it, the silhouette in this would just look lovely – even the detailing of it doesn’t look that cheap’

‘This is what it looks like from the back, you can see the lovely lace detail around the back there.

‘I need someone to pull the train out but it’s a lot longer at the back than it is at the front.’

Christina said the dress could be nice if it was fitted to her with some tucks at the stomach and adjustments to the neckline.

‘I think it could be absolutely beautiful because if you’ve got the figure for it, the silhouette in this would just look lovely – even the detailing of it doesn’t look that cheap,’ she said.

However, she added that ‘the very obvious stitching’ in places ‘does give away that it’s a very cheap dress.’

She continued: ‘On to the arms here and the back of it, I think it looks absolutely gorgeous and I think you could certainly make this dress work but I’m not sure, just because of these lines at the front.’

Christina said she ‘loved’ the final dress, which is priced at £42.99 – the most expensive of the four.

She modelled it for her followers and said: ‘This one has so much material, it would be so good for photos.

‘It is very big for me in the top and this is what it looks like from the back, the same length as in the front.

‘This one is very big for me in the top which is rare as I’m quite large chested.

‘However, if it was adjusted it could fit beautifully. The detailing like the beads around there is lovely, but I don’t know if there needs to be that see-through bit.

‘I might just put a piece of white material and just have that beading detail.’

She continued: ‘Now, this one does come with straps that you can attach or of course, you could have some put on yourself.

‘I love this one because of the massive skirt which would look amazing for photos.

‘However, my issue with it is, why isn’t this white skirt as wide as well?,’ she questioned as she showed off the underskirt part of the garment:

‘I can’t quite put the underskirt underneath it to make it big and puffy but I’ll show you.

‘You see what I mean? So if that underlay went all the way down, you could have the underskirt which I think looks absolutely fabulous.

‘You could of course cut the under layer and add another piece of material underneath, which you wouldn’t see from the outside. But this one, I do think you could get away with.’

Commenters were quick to compliment the bargain dresses, with one viewer writing ‘I actually think the first one is quite lovely!’

Anothe added: ‘That satin one is gorgeous. I think the lines look intentional and not cheap’.

Another savvy bride chimed in with: ‘All my wedding jewellery was SHEIN and my bridesmaid dresses, they were perfect… also all my flowers and flower girl dress.’

Others added: ‘Every one of them is good if you don’t have much money and get them altered to fit’ and ‘if you don’t have money, this is the way out, because there are also beautiful ones, just with the touch of a tailor’.
