A California-based couple have revealed that they are planning to name their baby after their favorite car – despite being slammed by online trolls. 

Cassie and Elden Hapa, who have been in a relationship for 13 years, enjoy a shared interest in Chevrolets – most of their family members own one and Elden’s father is a mechanic.

The couple recently surprised their YouTube subscribers with a baby name reveal to explain that if they have a boy, he will be called Chevy Rush, or, if she turns out to be a girl their go-to will be Chevrolet Ray – with the nickname being Chevy.

The first-time father has already got a huge C tattooed on his arm in gothic text font before the couple held a Chevrolet-themed baby reveal party and maternity shoot.

The couple revealed the baby’s name in their YouTube video by shutting the lights off in their house and turning them back on to showcase the name Chevy lit-up 

On September 1 Cassie posted the couple’s stylish maternity shoot in which she wore a skin-tight white dress and pumps with a show-stopping hair scarf and shades

Despite the pair bursting from giddiness, trolls have taken to social media to make fun of the planned name, with one pleading: ‘Please don’t name your baby Chevy.’ 

Another person in disbelief wrote: ‘Is the baby’s name gonna be Chevy? lol.’

A third commentator added: ‘Is Chevy the baby’s name’ alongside an emoji with a confused face. One user simply wrote: ‘The name’ with two sad smileys. 

Other commentators were on board with the unique baby name and cheered the couple on. 

An overjoyed user wrote: ‘Aww baby Chevy so freakin’ cute. Congrats babe.’

Another added: ‘The most unique baby bear Cassie.’ A third commentator wrote: ‘OMG THE CUTEST NAME AND PARTY EVER!!! Congrats bb I’m so over-the-moon-happy for you guys!!!’ 

On August 5 the couple hosted a colorful and quirky baby reveal party that was a nostalgic throwback to the 50s with its charming Chevrolet theme. 

The couple transported their guests to the set of Grease and the party featured a retro diner with blue and pink colors and checkerboard tiles, a dial-tone hot pink telephone on the wall, huge neon light signs, vinyl discs, bar stools and two inflatable cars in the pool with roses inside.

Even the specialty cocktails that were served were festive with the names Chevy, Cruisin’, Girly Pop, and Baby Blues.

The couple transported their guests to a diner that could have been a set for the movie Grease

The party featured a dial-tone hot pink telephone on the wall, huge neon light signs, vinyl discs, bar stools and two inflatable cars in the pool with roses inside

When it came time for the actual baby reveal Elden came up with the idea to pop confetti cannons with white pieces inside. 

Guests assumed the light color was a pastel pink to signify a girl but the couple announced that the gender would be a surprise up until the the birth. 

The duo had a modern take on gifts and showed off their gender neutral presents featuring monitors, books and bottle sterilizers.

On September 1, Cassie posted the couple’s stylish maternity shoot. She wore a skin-tight white dress and pumps with a show-stopping hair scarf and shades. 

He sported a classic white tee and black pants and they were photographed in front of a sleek blue Chevrolet and she wrote: ‘Cruisin’ into babyville.’

Cassie, who has 517,000 followers on Instagram and 352,000 subscribers on YouTube, has been documenting her pregnancy journey with transparent talks alongside her partner and content.

The couple hit a rough patch the last few months from the loss of their fur-baby dog named Conalay and Cassie had been feeling ‘depressed’ and ‘sick and sad’


When Cassie first surprised Elden with her pregnancy she took out a literal bun out of the oven to signify the one that was symbolically growing inside her

The couple hit a rough patch the last few months following the loss of their dog named Conalay. 

In their YouTube video Cassie got emotional and Elden wiped her tears as she spoke vulnerably about how she was ‘grieving,’ ‘depressed’ and ‘sick and sad’ from the death. 

She claimed that she didn’t have any motivation to eat and was just sleeping all day long at the time.

The life-changing baby news gave the couple a new journey of positive emotions to experience.

When Cassie first surprised Elden with her pregnancy she took out a literal bun out of the oven with an adorable sign and it signified that their was one symbolically growing inside her. 

He had an ear-to-ear smile while looking at her lovingly and the couple shared a long hug and cried tears of happiness and joy. 

Their baby will be due in December.
