Some of Britain’s best-known comedians are enjoying mining a rich new seam of comedy material – after becoming dads.
New father Jack Whitehall, who welcomed a daughter, Elsie, with partner Roxy Horner this month, is in the early days of parenthood and already proving that life with a baby brims with not just sleepless nights and exploding nappies – but countless funny anecdotes.
Even in theatre during labour, the 35-year-old comic, dressed in full scrubs, managed to glean a joke out of his pending parenthood, quipping: ‘Imagine coming into the world and this being the first thing you see.’
And Whitehall’s attempts to rock baby Elsie to sleep days later turned into a hilarious routine for the ‘Gram, as he swayed her flamboyantly from side-to-side while cheesy pop played in the background.
He joked in the caption: ‘When the only thing to stop her crying is to dance with her to Westlife.’
Seeing the funny side: Jack Whitehall has posted jokes aplenty since welcoming baby Elsie with his partner Roxy Horner – including this from the labour ward, where he wrote: ‘Imagine coming into the world and this being the first thing you see.’
Changing nappies? Whitehall has, of course, found the funny side of that too, telling his 3.3million followers: ‘Did someone sneak in last night and give my daughter five pints of Guinness and a kebab?’
The star’s beloved Arsenal also featured this week, when he shared a Gooners baby-grow – as well as a Glastonbury one – captioning the image: ‘Laying the groundwork early’.
He’s not alone either in finding the first few days of fatherhood ripe for comedic interpretation.
New dad Joel Dommett, who welcomed his first child – Wilde Cooper-Dommett -with wife Hannah Cooper last week, shared the moment he carried his newborn son out of the hospital.
Unable to resist a light-hearted moment, The Masked Singer presenter captioned it: ‘Finally got to do the hot dad walk thing…’
Even the couple’s birth announcement carried a little joke about feet.

The pair, who married in 2019, revealed their baby boy’s unique name as they shared the first photo, writing: ‘Wilde Cooper-Dommett. Pinterest perfect baby feet that are already bigger than his dad’s.’
During pregnancy, the couple shared their experiences via their regular Never Have I Ever podcasts, with Joel seen on Instagram carrying a large medicine ball strapped to his waist as he tried to live a day in the life of his then heavily pregnant wife.
Elsewhere, I’m a Celebrity star Seann Walsh has also incorporated his adorable daughter Wilder into his Instagram comedy.
Seann and girlfriend Grace Adderley welcomed their baby girl in February – and the birth announcement came with a reference to his apparent ‘pathetic’ passing out during the labour.

He wrote: ‘Grace has been through so much this week but she’s finally okay. We’re home. Girl power. Her bravery has made my fainting all the more pathetic.
Another, later post, has seen Walsh explaining to his daughter the perils of alcohol in a reel.
The video, entitled ‘Dad explains the world to baby. Alcohol’ sees him discussing drunken nights out and terrible hangovers as he chats to Wilder.
Walsh’s unique brand of baby comedy has landed him in hot water with some though.

Happy family: Last week, Rob and Josh spoke to the funnyman, 37, about life as a parent after welcoming his daughter Wilder with girlfriend Grace Adderley in February
An appearance on Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe’s hit Parenting Hell podcast sparked a slew of negative comments, claiming the conversation had been ‘misogynistic clap trap’ and ‘performed incompetence’.
During the chat, they spoke on webcam with Seann who was wearing a dressing gown and an eye-mask reading ‘F**K Off’, while Grace milled around in the background ready to answer questions he could not answer.
As well as detailing the birth, the star explained that he had not woken up once with his daughter, saying: ‘[I said] she does sleep through the night, we’re really lucky… then Grace overheard me… she said she’s up five times a night’.
While the podcast discussions were good-natured, followers were infuriated by some of the content, prompting Walsh to write after: ‘Well looking at this was a big mistake.
‘Yikes, was just having a laugh guys…’No need to be so personal. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it. It was fun to do. Blimey.’
