Queen Letizia of Spain is known for her fashion prowess – and if Princess Leonor’s latest appearance is anything to go by, it seems the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree.

The 18-year-old heir to the throne joined her parents, including father King Felipe, 55, at the solemn opening of the 15th legislature at the Spanish Parliament in Madrid.

For the occasion, Leonor put on a stylish display in an emerald frock that boasted a billowing skirt and elegant sleeves, which she teamed with a tan coat and matching heels.

She wore medals around her neck, while adding a touch of glitz to her ensemble with a pair of dainty gold earrings.

Leonor finished off her look with a matching coffee-coloured clutch bag and added a smattering of glamorous makeup to her features.

Her mother, Queen Letizia, 51, looked equally fashionable in a red long sleeved, A-line dress and matching heels, paired with a black cape.

She wore her chocolate brown tresses down and swept them behind her ears, exposing a pair of diamond earrings.

The queen donned a glamorous make up look for the event, with a coral shimmery smokey eye and matching lip colour.

King Felipe, meanwhile, looked smart in a blue tie, white shirt and coat as he attended the occasion with his family.

His youngest daughter Infanta Sofía likely didn’t go to the event because she is currently studying at UWC Atlantic College in the Welsh county of Vale of Glamorgan.

The school is often referred to as ‘Hippie Hogwarts’ thanks to its progressive approach to education and picturesque castle setting.

In October, Princess Leonor received a monumental reception from royal fans on her 18th birthday.

Spain’s capital was bustling with huge crowds who gathered outside the Congress of Deputies in Madrid to show their support for Leonor after she took an oath of allegiance to the Spanish Constitution.

Royal fans swarmed around the car where the queen-in-waiting sat with her younger sister, Infanta Sofia, 16. The princess delighted fans as she smiled towards the crowds as they gathered around the car to catch a glimpse of the heir.

A sea of Spanish flags of all shapes and sizes accompanied the warm reception from royal fans.

On her 18th birthday, the teenager swore allegiance to the Spanish Constitution, meaning that she can now officially act as regent in the absence of her father King Felipe.

In a speech delivered to the nation after the ceremony, the Princess once again stated her commitment to the Spanish people, and in turn asked Spaniards to trust in her as she steps up her role and becomes a Queen-in-training.

And a touching yet poignant moment came when the King presented his daughter with the Collar of the Order of (Carlos III) which is the highest civil honour in Spain.
