Noel, 56, said: “I was actually asked to present Have I Got News For You, but I’d be so out of my depth with those guys who are like f***ing amazingly funny and witty – Paul Merton and Ian Hislop and whoever else would be on it.

“But like, you see people on Have I Got New For You and you just think, ‘Why are they on it?’

“And they don’t say a thing because obviously they’ve not said anything funny and it’s just edited out and they just sit there and it’s just a pointless f***ing exercise.

“But I’ve been asked to do things like that and I’m always like, ‘No, it’s not for me’.”

Noel also blasted the BBC for cancelling former host Angus Deayton after he hit the headlines for taking cocaine and having sex with prostitutes.

The rock star said it paled into insignificance compared to the litany of horrific crimes carried out by Jimmy Savile.

He fumed: “They should have kept him, he was the best! It’s the f***ing BBC being big fannies, innit?

“It’s like anyone that’s ever been remotely controversial has got to be fired.”

Noel told his pal Matt Morgan on his podcast that he has been pestered to go on other comedy panel shows for years.

He added: “They’ve been trying to get me on Never Mind The Buzzcocks for years but I don’t really do those kind of things.”

Instead Noel has just focused on his performances and has been hitting the stage multiple times this year much to the joy of his fans.

Although he's not planning to land a TV stint just yet, he's not leaving the stage anytime soon.
