Strictlys Shirley Ballas becomes grandma for first time as son welcomes baby
Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has become a grandmother for the first time.
The TV favourite, 63, has one child Mark Ballas, who she shares with ex-husband Corky Ballas. Following in his mum’s footsteps, Mark is also a professional dancer.
The triple threat has been a regular on the US version of Strictly, Dancing With The Stars since 2007. On the show, he’s been partnered with celebs like Melissa Joan Hart and Christina Milian.

And on Tuesday (December 5) Mark confirmed that he has become a dad. Taking to his Instagram, he revealed that he and his wife BC Jean had welcomed a son, born in November.
Alongside a picture of the tot’s tiny hand, Mark wrote in the caption: “Banksi Wylde Ballas Joined us earthside 11-5-23. Happy one month sweet boy You are so loved.”
Shirley shared her excitement at becoming a grandmother earlier this year. Speaking on BBC Breakfast she revealed she was “to be a glam-ma for the first time”. She said: “My son is in Los Angeles so where there’s a will there’s a way, as with my challenges.”

Fans were quick to send their congrats to Mark. Rushing to the comments section, one person said: “Congratulations, so adorable.”
Someone else penned: “Congrats I am so happy for you both.” A third wrote: “Congratulations!!!! Welcome baby Banksi.”
Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse also sent her well wishes. She gushed: “Congratulations mom and dad. Wishing you all the best !!! @shirleyballas congratulations Shirley.”
Mark is the first and only child of Corky and Shirley Ballas. The couple, who are both ballroom dancers, married in 1985 and welcomed Mark a year later in 1986. In 2007, Shirley and Corky were granted a divorce – leaving Mark with separated parents from the age of 21.
Like Shirley, Corky is a retired competitive ballroom dancer who holds several Latin dance championship titles. Together, Corky and Shirley were undefeated United States International Latin Champions for seven years.
Mark was born in Texas but as a child, moved to London where he attended the world-renowned Italia Conti Performing Arts School. At the school, Mark not only pursued his passion for dance but also developed an aptitude for music – which would eventually lead to his very own singing.
