Wonkas Timothée Chalamet warned stay away from Hull after finding accent sexy
Wonka star Timothée Chalamet has been warned to stay away from Hull after he said he found the accent sexy.
The star of the new Willy Wonka film revealed his love for the northern twang. The actor admitted he also loved the Essex accent and a “middle-aged northern accent”.
TV star Lucy Beaumont, from Hull, said she was baffled as to why Chalamet would find it attractive. Chalamet said: “I like the Hull accent… Hull is sexy.”

But responding to his remarks Beaumont said: “I think he’s on drugs. I’ve had this accent for 40 years and no-one has ever told me it’s sexy.”
The actress, who wrote the sitcom Hullraisers, added: “He looks like a very lovely young man and he should stay away from the region or he’ll be savaged by middle-aged Hull women.”
Chalamet’s comments attracted surprise on social media, with one person writing: “Timothée Chalamet saying Hull is sexy is the highlight of my year.” Another said: “Can someone ask Timothée Chalamet how he knows that Hull exists?!”
Chalamet plays the character previously depicted by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in earlier adaptations of the children’s novel. The much-hyped film was released on Friday.
He's already been praised for the role which has only just hit screens as the 27-year-old depicts young Willy Wonka and the start of his Chocolate Factory – many years before Charlie ever stepped foot into it.
The actor had mixed opinions when it was revealed he was joining the line-up as the main character, but fans soon got behind the gig, particularly after his impressive credits in the likes of Dune and Little Women.
Away from his acting, fans have had a particular interest in his antics with Kylie Jenner after the duo appeared to confirm their romance in a cosy snap earlier this year. In recent weeks his focus has been on his brand new role – which has finally hit screens after months of excitement.
