Brian Conley shoots down EastEnders feud reports as he confirms exit for Rocky
EastEnders star Brian Conley has set the record straight, hitting back at claims of backstage tension amid his exit from the soap.
The acclaimed actor and comedian is set to depart the soap later this year, with reports suggesting that the abruptness of the decision is causing upset with show bosses.
Additionally, Rocky’s goodbye was linked to the upcoming murder at Christmas, partially told through a flash-forward episode earlier this year.
With fans eager to know the truth, and storylines intricately being webbed together in the build-up, it was said that Brian’s departure may throw a spanner in the works.
An EastEnders spokesperson told Metro.co.uk at the time: ‘There are many rumours and theories circulating about whose body is under the Christmas tree but, to not spoil the drama for the audience, we will not be commenting on any speculation.’
Now, Brian himself has poured cold water on the suggestion of backstage drama, releasing a statement in a video.

‘Hello lovely people its me Brian Conley aka Rocky, sending out this message especially to all the EastEnders fans,’ he said.
‘Now you may have heard reports that I am leaving EastEnders, and it was a tough decision but it is true – I am going, and I made the decision for many reasons.
‘It is tough because there’s such a wonderful crowd in front of the camera and behind, and I loved my three years there. As to truths in the reports, there are parts saying I clashed with TV bosses and the crews, I didn’t clash with anyone or go on a rant.
He added wryly: ‘They will probably report on this now, saying I have had a ranting about ranting – but I am not ranting.
‘I have gone with their blessings at the Beeb and I am excited for the future and where it’s going to go.
‘I’m also excited about Rocky’s exit as I know it’s good! Sending much love, all EastEnders fans, enough said.’
An EastEnders spokesperson added: ‘We can confirm that Brian Conley will be leaving EastEnders.
‘There is absolutely no truth in any claims of a feud with bosses and the show fully support Brian in his decision to leave which was made some time ago.
‘We wish him the best of luck for the future as we continue to work towards his exit storyline which has been in the works for some time.’
Rocky has been central to a number of major storylines since arriving on the Square.
Often portrayed as a cheeky-chappie comedy character, he was first introduced as a con-man, working with Dotty Cotton (Milly Zero) to fleece Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy).
He would later strike up a romance with Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), but it was later revealed that he was, in fact, already married.
Now, he is contending with the return of Kathy’s son Ian (Adam Woodyatt).
Kathy is a member ‘The Six’ – that is, one of the potential killers of the mystery body on the floor this Christmas.
How Rocky becomes linked to this remains to be seen…
