Greg Vaughan quit Days of Our Lives as Eric Brady due to broken promises
Days of Our Lives: NBC teases latest episodes of show
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Days of our Lives.
Days of Our Lives star Greg Vaughan made his departure from the drama three years ago, so why did the Eric Brady actor depart?
Vaughan is behind Sami Brady’s (played by Alison Sweeney) twin brother Eric who was part of the NBC show for eight years and was involved in various big storylines.
From his struggles with alcoholism and accidentally killing Daniel Jonas (Shawn Christian), to being possessed by the devil, Eric has been at the heart of some memorable moments.
But it was in 2020 that he left Salem behind and here, Express.co.uk explains what happened.
Why did Greg Vaughan leave Days of Our Lives as Eric Brady?
It isn’t uncommon for creators to write characters out of shows to drive forward certain storylines, however, this wasn’t the case for Eric.
Rather, it was actually actor Vaughan’s decision to leave the show as he wasn’t happy with how his character was being treated.

Opening up to Soap Opera Digest following his departure, he explained: “A lot of things that were said to me or promised to me never came to fruition.
“I didn’t feel like all of the things that were being told to me were being delivered.
“I felt like a glorified extra in everybody else’s story line, and I never felt like Ari [Zucker] and I were given a, ‘Hey, you’re going to be our couple.’ So, it was time. My deal was over and that was it.”

As Days of Our Lives fans know though, it didn’t take long for Vaughan to return to the drama.
Reports of him reprising his role of Eric came in November 2021, briefly appearing on a few occasions before returning full time the following year.
One of his biggest storylines to date was his involvement in a love triangle with girlfriend Sloan Petersen (Jessica Serfaty) and his ex-girlfriend Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker).
What made matters worse was the fact both women were pregnant with his children.

In August though, Vaughan had to take a step back from the show as he tested positive for COVID-19.
So to ensure the show can continue with this storyline, he was temporarily replaced by actor Jason Gerhardt.
He is best known for playing Cooper Barrett on General Hospital but has also appeared on Mistresses, NCIS and Chicago Med.
Days of Our Lives is available to watch on NBC.
