Helen Skelton announces major career change as she lands new TV role
Helen Skelton signs off BBC Radio 5 Live for the final time
To many Helen Skelton will be best known for her presenting duties on the likes of Blue Peter and Countryfile.
Others will remember her making it all the way to the Strictly Come Dancing 2022 final with her professional dance partner Gorka Marquez in 2022.
But the mother-of-three has just announced a surprising career change.
Helen is set to make her return to children’s TV in the upcoming series of the animated show, Fireman Sam.
She will play the new character of Annie Morris. Farmer Annie is set to be a key member of the community, with her introduction also bringing a new location into the show – Annie’s farm.

Fans of the show – young and old – will be interested to know that Annie is related to one of Pontypandy Fire Station’s most beloved firefighters – Penny Morris (voiced by Tegwen Tucker in the UK version of the show).
Annie is actually Penny’s cousin and is the third of her cousins, following Derek Price and Jerry Lee Cridlington (both voiced by Steven Kynman).
The Strictly star made the decision to step away from her BBC Radio 5 Live role earlier this year so that she could spend more time with her three children.
She shares Ernie, aged eight, Louis, aged five and 19-month-old daughter Elsie with her ex-husband Richie Myler.

Upon wrapping up Strictly Come Dancing, Helen opened up to the Daily Mail that she “just wanted to make” her “kids proud”.
She revealed, while speaking about her new venture: “I’m thrilled to be a part of the Fireman Sam family and lend my voice to the spirited character of Farmer Annie Morris.”
She continued: “This series is packed with adventures and important life lessons for kids, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
The upcoming fifteenth series of Fireman Sam will consist of 26 episodes and air on Cartoonito starting this weekend.
Since leaving the BBC radio team, Helen has appeared as a presenter on BBC’s Morning Live and worked alongside another Strictly Come Dancing star, Dan Walker, on Channel 5’s Dan & Helen’s Pennine Adventure.
The new series of Fireman Sam premieres on Cartoonito at 8am on October 21.
