Phillip Schofield tipped to be played by Happy Valley star in This Morning TV series
The actor who's been tipped to take on the role of Phillip Schofield in a TV series about the scandal surrounding his ITV exit has been revealed by bookmakers.
The frontrunner who could play the 61-year-old presenter in the rumoured series is none other than Happy Valley star James Norton.
The This Morning scandal is now reportedly at the centre of a potential TV series that will explore the incidents which led to Schofield's recent departure, titled The Runner.
Former This Morning host Phillip quit his role on TV after he admitted to an "unwise but not illegal" affair with a younger male colleague earlier this year.
According to Metro, a bookies has done some number crunching and revealed the Happy Valley actor, who is also one of the favourites to play the next James Bond, is the clear frontrunner.
The actor, who is perhaps best known for playing killer Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley, has been placed at 4/1 by BoyleSports to play Phillip.
He's followed closely by Michael Sheen given his history of impersonating prominent figures in biopics, including Tony Blair and Brian Clough.
Other big names joining the running are 7/1 on Steve Pemberton, 8/1 on David Tennant, and 9/1 on Line of Duty's Martin Compston.
BoyleSports Lawrence Lyons told the publication: "The make-up department would have to add a few years to James Norton, but we reckon he could turn his hand to anything and we’d expect a blockbuster name to be the star of the show."
It comes after Phillip stepped down as co-host of the ITV daytime show following the drama that surrounded his affair.
Work has reportedly now begun on this new TV series that will showcase the drama which led to his shocking TV exit.
The new "jaw-dropping" TV series is set to "mirror how the scandal unfolded", including how he lied to his co-presenter and best friend Holly Willoughby, The Sun reported.
After Phillip stepped down as co-host of the ITV daytime show, his agency YMU dropped him and, following the whirlwind of drama, ITV launched an external investigation.
It is currently ongoing, with Holly cooperating with authorities as she has "nothing to hide".
Holly previously shared her "hurt" over Phillip's "lies" in an official statement, after he stepped down from his presenting post.
The former TV presenter is also reported to have been undergoing therapy to help him come to terms with losing his career and best friend.
This comes amid reports that Phillip is in talks to write a tell-all book, following his exit from ITV.
