Corries Sam Aston announces wife is pregnant after tragically losing twin

Sam and Briony Aston on their baby loss heartbreak

Coronation Street star Sam Aston and his wife Briony have revealed they’re expecting their third child together.

The pair shared the happy news with OK! but admitted it’s a “bittersweet” moment after losing a twin.

The couple explained that they were expecting twins but lost one of the babies to ‘Vanishing Twin Syndrome’.

Briony said: “We were excited and thankful, because we always wanted a baby that was healthy.

“Then we started thinking, ‘We could have had two.. Will the living twin always wonder, ‘What if?’ and will they feel lonely?

“We found ourselves questioning what could have been, while feeling grateful for what we’ve got.”

Sam, 30, echoed his wife’s sentiments but expressed his gratitude for being able to have one healthy baby.

The actor expressed: “At first, you’re thinking, ‘What would it have been like to have twins? Would we have had one of each, a boy and a girl?’

“Like Briony says, it’s definitely bittersweet, but we just feel very grateful that the other baby is absolutely fine.”

Vanishing Twin Syndrome is a condition in which one of the babies stops growing and the mother’s body absorbs the embryo and tissue.

The two are already parents to two children, three-year-old son Sonny and 18-month-old daughter Daisy.

Briony also previously went through two tragic miscarriages, both within only four months of each other.

She and Sam announced their second miscarriage in July, with Briony taking to Instagram to share her experience in the hopes of helping other women going through the same heartbreak.

The mum-of-two shocked her followers when she posted a photo of a positive pregnancy test with some writing across the image reading: “Not pregnant anymore.”

Fans had no idea the duo were expecting, but Briony revealed they had told their close friends and family about both pregnancies.

She said at the time that she revealed the news because she wanted to have support from her loved ones if the pregnancies didn’t get to full-term.

The couple got engaged in 2017 after Sam got down on one knee, before the pair tied the knot in May 2019.
