James Martin sparks concern with TV return just weeks after taking break over cancer diagnosis

James Martin has sparked some concerns from fans over his return to TV, as it came only a couple of weeks after his announcement that he was going to be taking a break from work.

After telling his fans that he'd been diagnosed with skin cancer back in 2018 earlier this year, the popular chef and ITV star later went on to explain that he had to have a number of operations in a bid to beat the disease.

He told his audience at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall during a concert with his band that he would be getting sorted "at the end of next month" and planned to return to TV in three months time.

The 51 year old has now seemingly backtracked, sharing a snap of him filming on the ITV show on his Instagram page.

James depicted his latest ingredients haul for another cookery session laid out on a spacious worktop, and it seems the star is excited to get back in the kitchen.

"We’re back! Full day filming @saturdayjamesmartin and to the local for one," the chef captioned his post.

"I thought you were supposed to be taking time off to get better James or are you still on a high after your amazing tour. Take care of yourself," one fan posted in the comments.

Another follower agreed: "I was thinking the same."

"Aren’t you meant to be taking it easy and sorting your health out Mr Martin?" a third person asked, followed by: "Welcome back to Saturdays James.

"I am sure you enjoyed your tour but there is no place like home and of course your amazing show."

While another fan added: "You don’t stop boss !!" and another person echoed: "I thought you were meant to be taking it easy, James sending love"

Speaking to his fans at the Philharmonic Hall, James previously shared: "On a personal note, I just wanted to say thank you for 30 years of television.

"For me personally, I've been through a lot of s*** with cancer but I'm getting sorted at the end of next month.

"I will be back fighting at the end of February but I'm going on a little bit of a break to get that sorted.

"I just wanted to say thank you for all your support and all your messages," the cook finished.

It comes amid recent reports that fellow chef Jimmy Doherty would be taking over James's slot on ITV in the meantime, taking viewers on a journey of culinary delights around Florida in the new year.
