Jonnie Irwin back in hospital after suffering stabbing pains

Jonnie Irwin has sorrowfully revealed he is back in hospital after suffering stabbing pains in his side and being diagnosed with jaundice and a possible infection.

The 49-year-old, who has three young sons with his wife Jessica, has been open about his battle with lung cancer after the tumour spread to his brain.

He lamented to his 229,000 Instagram followers: “Back in hospital – been in since Friday with Jaundice. I had a fever and acute stabbing pain in my right hand side. Turns out I probably had an infection and other issues which I won’t bore you with.

“Been on drips, regular bloods taken and have observations every 4 hours through day and night.”

Referring to the attached photo of himself with his feet up watching TV, he added: “Didn’t think I’d be watching @bbcmorninglive from a hospital bed but it’s just part of the rollercoaster life that this illness throws at you.”

The star had recorded a “short film” for the show just days earlier, and had been hoping to catch up with the segment back home, but sadly his health struggles made that impossible.

Jonnie divulged that he is expecting another scan today followed by a meeting with his oncologist, so he’s keeping his “fingers crossed for positive news”.

On a heartwarming note, the former A Place in the Sun star added: “I must admit I was especially touched by the birthday message from the team for my birthday this coming Friday – thanks very much.”

The TV personality previously revealed that he’d been “on the cusp of death” back in May, when he’d been confined to a hospice and unable to walk – but against all odds, he was able to overcome the challenges.

Doctors hadn’t anticipated that he would survive as long as he has, and gave the chilling prediction that he was unlikely to survive his twins’ birthday celebrations earlier in the year.

However, the star bounced back and is now expecting to mark his milestone 50th birthday on Saturday November 18.

Meanwhile, his eagerly awaited Escape To The Country comeback episode reached a record-breaking one million viewers when it was aired this autumn, leaving Jonnie delighted and proud of his achievement.

Jonnie’s latest post detailing his health woes received more than 8,000 supportive likes in just an hour.
