Mark Wright on motivation struggles and avoiding ‘falling off bandwagon’

Mark Wright has revealed the highs and lows of his fitness journey disclosing how he avoids “falling off the bandwagon”.

“When you’re not feeling motivated, or when you’re not in the mood to train, that can hold you back sometimes but you’ve just got to tell yourself how you could feel afterwards,” he told Express.co.uk.

“I know a lot of people admit to falling off the bandwagon when it comes to going to the gym [and stop going] from like October onwards.

“Obviously people wanna sleep in more and snooze the alarm because it’s dark outside, it’s colder, but actually, this is the time when I always get back on it.”

Mark explained that while many are giving in to the temptation of sweet treats in the lead up to Christmas and abandoning their diet in favour of festive parties, he’s doing things in reverse.

“I normally use summer as sort of my chill time – going to beer gardens, on holiday and whatever else… [but] when it gets to October, that’s when I really wanna push on!” he declared.

Revealing which male celebrities have a physique that he admires, he added: “I’ve always liked the shape of Mark Wahlberg, Chris Hemsworth, that toned sort of vibe.”

Meanwhile, the iconic figure he’d like to work out with the most is former football ace David Beckham.

“I look up to him, he’s a hero of mine, so I’d probably like to do a [training] session with Beckham. Do I think he needs to work on his fitness? No, definitely not – he’s ripped up – but I look up to him,” Mark reiterated.

In a bid to maintain his muscular shape without sacrificing great taste, Mark’s been feeding his snack cravings with a no-added-sugar product that he’s discovered by GetPRO.

“I love a sweet treat. I love a snack and these have got no added sugar but it feels like you’re getting the [same] kind of craving [you’d get from sugar], so late at night I’ll have the mousse if I really fancy a chocolate bar, what I’d normally eat in off-season,” he revealed.

“It’s not just about working out. I’d say 70 to 80 per cent of it is about your diet, so don’t just think that you can go for a run and eat what you want, because that is definitely a myth,” he recommended.

Mark also enjoys milkshakes and yoghurts, which he says always boosts his mood.

“I’m a massive believer in eating protein in the right amounts because it’s great for muscle recovery and also muscle growth,” he continued.

Earlier this year, he benefitted from his tip-top fitness when he decided to run the London marathon with his brother Joshua, who is a professional footballer for National League side Ebbsfleet United.

Meanwhile, in those moments when Mark gets an opportunity to sit and rest, he scarcely misses an episode of Strictly Come Dancing.

Having performed on the show with pro dancer Karen Hauer almost a decade ago, he has great fondness for the memories he made, exclaiming: “It reminds me of Christmas. I love it.”
