Krishnan Guru-Murthy on his ‘minor concern’ over heart condition

Krishnan Guru-Murthy claims that four weeks worth of live shows have had a “profound” effect on his life.

The 53-year-old news presenter appeared on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on Thursday and got candid with host Janette Manrara.

The BBC host, 39, opened the emotional conversation by querying: “You made a joke to Claudia [Winkleman] that your wife has said she’s never seen you happier in 35 years?”

The Channel 4 newsreader replied: “Well it wasn’t a joke, to be honest. It’s been a genuinely profound experience.”

After stating that the show had turned into a therapy session, the former Strictly professional asked Krishnan what he thinks his good mood is “down to”.

“I think it’s about realising you really need something you love in life,” he began. “And it’s quite easy at my age – you hit middle age and quite a lot of your life is about other people.

“It’s about work, it’s about kids, it’s about you know… and you don’t necessarily do stuff that you love and doing something that you love suddenly releases with wave of emotion and endorphins.

“You know, I’ve turned into one of those jibbering old men who suddenly get in touch with their emotions and cry all the time,” he admitted.

The journalist continued to say that he believes there is “something” in the balance of “great fun and great seriousness” that “allows you to be happy”.

The recent comments made by Krishnan follow those he previously made on the latest Strictly results show.

At the time, the star claimed that competing for the Glitterball Trophy had been “life changing” and that his family had witnessed a notable difference in his mood.

He explained to host Claudia: “My wife – we took the dog for a walk the other day – and she said, ‘We think you might not have been happy for 35 years and that you’ve just kind of discovered happiness’ – and guy liner, obviously.”

Krishnan’s comments come ahead of himself and professional partner Lauren Oakley taking to the BBC ballroom floor again on Saturday.

This weekend, the pair are due to dance the Quickstep to The Lady Is A Tramp.

They will also be hoping to improve on last week’s modest score of 28, which they were awarded for their Paso Doble to By The Way by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Elsewhere, the broadcaster has recently revealed that he has been taking Strictly training seriously and decided to turn down interviewing U2 in Las Vegas so that he could practice more.

Speaking to Metro, Krishnan said: “I was asked to go and interview them in Las Vegas last week, but I couldn’t because I was training.

“But it just wasn’t gonna work because it would mean 20 hours on a plane and that’s just too much.”

Despite declining a chance to talk to the iconic rock band, he later received a video message from Bono and The Edge.

The message, which was re-posted to Instagram by Krishnan himself, was a clip of the U2 members saying: “Good luck Krishnan and Lauren, not that we believe in luck.”

Speaking to the publication, Lauren, 32 said the message was the “coolest thing that’s ever happened to me, ever”.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One at 6:35pm.
