A Low-Budget 'Barbenheimer' Movie Is in the Works

Famed B-movie filmmaker Charles Band is helming a low-budget Barbenheimer film — a comedy take on the cultural phenomenon of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

The Hollywood Reporter states that the film will have a budget of just under $1 million USD, and will begin filming next year. Barbenheimer will follow the story of scientist doll Dr. Bambi J Barbenheimer, who leaves her perfect Dolltopia world and her boyfriend, Twink Dollman, for the real world after discovering how dolls are inhumanely treated by children. When she sees the brutality in person, she transforms her rage into her work and decides to build a nuclear bomb to wipe them out.

“It’s so silly,” Band said. “But it seems like every other feature is dark and depressing, and it’s like, God, we need a little humor going into 2024.” The report adds that Adam Felber, Band’s biographer, was the one who thought of Barbenheimer. “He called me and was like, ‘We should make Barbenheimer the movie. Everyone around the world is having fun with that notion, so we should actually make it.”

Elsewhere in entertainment, HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm is premiering in February 2024.
