Colmar Unveils Collaborative Capsule With Joshua Vides

Heritage Italian luxury outerwear brand Colmar is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary. Now, hot on the heels of its just-dropped short documentary — that looks back at the brand’s creations and outlets of inspiration — Colmar has just unveiled an all-new capsule collection in collaboration with American artist, Joshua Vides.

Coming from Palo Alto, California, Joshua Vides is a visual artist who’s gained a stellar reputation following his first custom Nike Air Force 1 design in 2017, finding an identifiable voice that was able to expand into visual art — allowing the creative to build parallel realities obtained through his manual mark. Since then, Vides has collaborated with a slew of fashion houses — such as PUMA and New Balance — as well as with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and Google.

With this in mind, Vides’ unique approach to design has been encapsulated into his new collaboration with Colmar through 10 garments that trace and redesign Colmar’s culture and know-how. Two jackets and a reversible padded vest stand as highlights in the collection, with the former printed in black and white on one side — where Vides has redesigned a jacket over the 1249 down jacket — and total black on the other, complemented with Colmar’s first ever dove motif.

Meanwhile, two caps are included in the line with ski goggles, whilst a Total Logo Scarf, a sweatshirt, and a pair of cotton pants come alongside a T-shirt designed with a melange of gold medals around the neck that reimagine a historic photo of Croatian ski champion, Ivica Kostelic.

“I usually start collaborations with a specific idea in mind,” Joshua Vides said. “I don’t like to overthink it. I give myself the freedom to react to the stimuli of the moment and create the concept on the spot. In this particular case, I thought about what an artist has in common with an athlete, the idea of constant creativity in finding solutions, the best possible ones, to react to failure. The satisfaction of winning after failing several times, of standing on a podium and getting back up after a defeat.”

You can take a closer look at the Joshua Vides x Colmar collaboration above and the full collection will be available to shop via Colmar’s official website and HBX from October 12, while the capsule is also available now on Joshua Vides’ website from today [October 9].
