G-SHOCK Unveils Limited-Edition MRG-B2000SG-1A 'Shougeki-Maru: Gai'

Casio has added a new weapon to its G-SHOCK arsenal—the MRG-B2000SG, a limited edition watch inspired by the elegance and might of a samurai’s armor. This release embodies Casio’s “ultimate in toughness-driven watches” motto and aligns with the 40th anniversary of the G-SHOCK brand. Additionally, it acts as a tribute to centuries of samurai heritage, encapsulated in modern wristwear.

G-SHOCK’s MRG-B2000SG design finds its muse in the Shougeki-Maru: Gai kabuto helmet, crafted especially for this release. The bezel showcases a tiger, a symbol of strength, meticulously engraved by renowned metalsmith, Kobayashi Masao. His chiseling technique results in a unique rock-grain relief pattern on the tiger stripes, each bearing a distinct size and shape.

The white band of the watch, reminiscent of the white ito odoshi — a binding technique used in samurai armor — is more than an aesthetic choice, it signifies the unyielding determination of a samurai. Made from fluor rubber, the band offers a flexible fit, durability and stain resistance.

Notably, the case, crafted from titanium and ion-plated in a dark silver hue, undergoes a deep-layer hardening process. This process enhances its hardness and also unveils a crystalline pattern, giving the watch a rugged look that mirrors the color of the helmet. A metal plate on the side commemorates the G-SHOCK 40th anniversary and screw heads set with rubies add a bit of flair to the watch.

At the time of writing, pricing for the MRG-B2000SG, limited to 700 pieces, has yet to be shared by Casio, however, interested collectors can learn more about the watch or use the brand’s store locator via its official site.
