J Balvin To Receive the Style Icon Trophy at the First-Ever Latin American Fashion Awards

The first-ever Latin American Fashion Awards are set to take place in the Dominican Republic at the Altos de Chavón Amphitheater on November 4, honoring the industry’s talent across Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America for the first time. Ahead of the ceremony, the awards show’s founders, Constanza Etro and Silivia Argüello, have revealed the full list of nominations across 14 categories.

Among the trophies, J Balvin is set to take home the inaugural Latin American Style Icon award. “I’m excited to be celebrating the next generation of Latin American designers and be surrounded by creative minds looking to push the boundaries,” the artist, who is also slated to perform during the show, said in a statement. ”I’m honored to be part of this event that cherishes hardwork and creativity of the highest caliber.”

The remaining categories received more than 1,500 nominations from 12 different countries. Etro and Argüello formed a high-octane jury of notable designers, editors and industry leaders to select both the nominees and winners. Haider Ackermann, who is from Colombia, acts as the ceremony’s president, and jury members include the CFDA’s Steven Klob, Camera Nazionale della Moda president Carlo Capasa, Vogue Mexico’s Karla Martinez de Salas and i-D Global Fashion Editor Carlos Nazario, among others.

Hosted by actress Leslie Grace, the ceremony will name winners for awards including Dominican Republic Local Star, Emerging Photographer of the Year, Fashion Influencer of the Year, Model of the Year, Fashion Film of the Year, Accessories Brand of the Year, Emerging Designer of the Year, Brand of the Year, Designer of the Year and more.
