Lenovo Taps Three Global Designers for a Tablet-Inspired Collection That Prioritizes "Me Time"

Tech powerhouse Lenovo is entering the fashion domain, with an all-new tablet-inspired collection, crafted in collaboration with three designers: RANRA, Kit Wan Studios and Maium. The line, titled Lenovo Tab Wear, looks to merge the artistic codes of the aforementioned creatives with the functionality of its own devices through a range of designs that incorporate the company’s tablets into their construction.

The thematic crux of the collection is the concept of “me time,” or “dedicated personal time for individuals, allowing them to prioritize their wellbeing while doing what they want, whenever and wherever they choose,” according to the brand. Humans crave their alone time, but they often struggle to prioritize it, per Pew Research; so Lenovo hopes to promote finding some solitude through these individualistic collaborations.

Each designer took this concept and created fashion items that prioritize “me time” in very literal ways. Among them, RANRA, a London and Reykjavík-based outerwear brand, crafted a noise and light-cancelling anorak with an isolation hood and a tablet harness.

“It was kind of the perfect brief that we’ve been wanting to work on for a while — the ability to think really broadly about the integration of me-time in fashion and technology,” Ranra told Hypebeast. “Like how do you use design to improve people’s lives? It’s not about kind of integrating elements of electronics into your clothing but it’s thinking about things like how the piece performs.”

Maium, who hails from Amsterdam, produced a slew of transformational jackets that turn into inflatable hammocks. “This campaign was so lovely because I could completely think out of the box with the showpiece,” said Maium. “Me-time is quite rare at the moment for me so it’s crucial for a sustainable life and career…I was very honored that the global brand, Lenovo, asked me to design this me-time jacket.”

Rounding out the range, Hong Kong’s Kit Wan Studios made a modular “techno-armor exo-skeleton” that merges technological design processes with streetwear. “For me, it’s a really close-knitted relationship between fashion and tech,” said Wan. “Me-time and fashion can really merge together to create something very extraordinary. All of my work – they’re always made to be one of a kind…Inspiration always really comes unexpectedly, so it’s very important for me to have something to document those unexpected inspirations.”
