Library of Congress Adds 'Home Alone,' '12 Years A Slave' and More To National Film Registry

The Library of Congress unveiled the 25 movies to be added to the National Film Registry.

Released from the past 102 years, the 2023 selection includes blockbusters such as Home Alone, Apollo 13, Fame, Bamboozled, 12 Years A Slave, The Nightmare Before Christmas andTerminator 2: Judgment Day, as well as documentaries like Maya Lin: A Strong, Clear Vision. “Films are an integral piece of America’s cultural heritage, reflecting stories of our nation for more than 125 years,” Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said in a statement. “We’re grateful to the film community for collaborating with the Library in our goal to preserve the heritage of cinema.”

Jacqueline Stewart, chair of the Library’s National Film Preservation Board, added that the 2023 titles “show the nation’s cultural diversity and storytelling range, finding deep humanity across a range of genres.”
