'The Last of Us Part 2' Remaster Introduces a "Roguelike Survival Mode"

The Last Of Us Part 2 has received a remaster from developer Naughty Dog. The original title rolled out in 2020 as a sequel to 2013’s post-apocalyptic survival game, The Last of Us. The video game franchise was also adapted into a widely acclaimed drama series at the beginning of this year, leading to renewed interest in the games.

With the new remaster, developers have introduced a new mode for single players. “No Return Mode” is described as a “roguelike survival mode,” pitting players against a randomized group of foes in different locations. The challenge is simply to survive as long as you can.

Players will encounter new and unexpected challenges, Naughty Dog says. They’ll be able to play as Ellie and Abby, along with other unlockable characters and new ones, such as Dina, Jesse, Lev, and Tommy. As players advance through the mode, they’ll gain access to more characters, along with their various styles of combat and skins.

Naughty Dog announced the news with a trailer walking fans through what the mode will look like and the different additions they can expect during gameplay.

Available for pre-order now, the remastered The Last Of Us Part 2 will launch for PlayStation 5 on January 19.
