The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche Honors the Porsche 911’s Enduring Legacy

In 2021, TAG Heuer and Porsche joined forces to commemorate their shared dedication to quality, prestige, and innovation. Now, the esteemed watchmaker and car manufacturer have teamed up once more to create the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche. The two brands not only share numerous achievements and a commitment to purveying high-performance products, but they also share launch dates — the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche will launch on the 60th anniversary of both the TAG Heuer Carrera Collection and the Porsche 911.

The Porsche 911, which originally debuted as the 901, hit the scene in 1963 and immediately caught the attention of collectors and car enthusiasts. It was designed by Ferdinand Alexander “Butzi” Porsche and had the ability to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in only 9.1 seconds. This impressive feat cemented the sports car as one of the most advanced and powerful of its time.

This technological breakthrough paved the way for some of Porsche’s most boundary-breaking models of the future, setting the foundation for 911 models to come. Also associated with power, speed, and agility, the storied “Carrera” model was inspired by the Carrera Panamericana race held in Mexico. This watch, like the original Porsche 911 model, set the tone for updated, modern styles that watch aficionados and car enthusiasts can both appreciate today.

In the 1970s, the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 arose as an iconic sports car in automotive design history, building off of the original model. As these two brands share a similar vision, they debuted the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 timepieces in October 2022, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this exceptional car model. Now honoring the original 911 model, the two brands have returned with a new timepiece that calls to the 911’s graceful proportions, performance heritage, and unbeatable speed.

The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche comes in both Steel and Gold editions. Paying tribute to Porsche’s record-breaking speed, TAG Heuer introduced a new movement that is designed for precise measurements of short time intervals. The TH20-08 Automatic mirrors the original Porsche 901’s lightning-fast acceleration, as its central hand displays two snail-shaped wheels and accelerates and decelerates quickly. This innovative design feature ensures more accurate time measurements.

Additional design elements and technical features include a 42 mm case, a double glassbox, red lines on the flange mimicking movement, a 6 o’clock subdial that references 1970s retro cash dashboards, and the 9 o’clock subdial which stands out due to its similarities to the highest RPM (revolution per minute) counter-indications on a car dashboard. These additional aspects further honor the automotive design aesthetic that Porsche has coined.

For those who want a more shimmery dial, the steel version makes for the optimal outfit accent, or collectors can opt for the gold for a more refined look. Both options feature a calfskin strap embossed with the number “911.” Super-LumiNova® is employed in both to enhance visibility no matter the conditions. As both Porsche and TAG Heuer share a common love for racing, as well as pushing the envelope with every new creation, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche stands in as more than just a new watch model, but as a symbol of longevity and excellence.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint in Steel and Gold will be available starting September 2023. Check out tagheuer.com for more information.
