BBC Strictlys Shirley Ballas new grandsons very unique baby name meaning

We know her best for giving her expert critiques on Strictly Come Dancing as the show’s head judge, but Shirley Ballas has now earned a brand new title after she revealed she had become a grandma for the very first time.

Earlier this week, the dancer announced the safe arrival of a baby boy named Banksi Wylde Ballas, on 5 November.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge's only child Mark, who is married to singer-songwriter BC Jean, celebrated becoming a father with a sweet Instagram post a month after Banksi's birth.

"Welcome to Earth my son. Banksi Wylde Ballas 11 / 5 / 23," wrote Mark, who is a professional dancer on US show Dancing With The Stars.

Meanwhile his wife shared the same picture, which sweetly shows the family of 3 holding hands, and wrote: "Banksi Wylde Ballas. Joined us earthside 11•5•23. Happy one month sweet boy. You are so loved”.

Since the news was announced, many fans couldn’t help but be stunned by the little one’s very unique baby name, as it was the first time they had heard Banksi, beyond the famed graffiti artist, who shares the name (albeit spelled differently).

While it is currently unknown what the inspiration behind the name actually is, it could be a subtle nod to the artist, and could signal a bright and artistic future for the little boy when he grows up.

However, it could also be a variation of the gender-neutral name Banks, means “edge of the river” and expresses one of the loveliest symbols of nature.

As well as his unconventional first name, Banksi also boasts a unique middle name too, with Wylde traditionally meaning: Wild.

The adorable little one also shares the same surname as his famous grandma, with Ballas having a number of different meanings depending on the language it originated from.

According to FamilySearch, the name derives from the Albanian word ballë ‘forehead, brow’, a nickname for someone with a prominent brow.

However, the same website also adds that it could possibly have Italian roots too, with the Italian word balla ‘ball, bullet; cannonball’ traditionally offering a nickname for someone who was short and fat!

Prior to Banksi’s birth, Shirley has previously referred to the child as a 'miracle baby', after BC and Mark sadly suffered a miscarriage during their first pregnancy.

Speaking before Banksi's birth, Shirley explained to The Mirror : “We’re calling this baby Rainbow, because my daughter-in-law lost a baby last year. I was on Strictly and couldn’t fly over to them, which was devastating. I found it difficult to get through the show.

“Mark was on Dancing with the Stars and having to turn up for work, crushed. I knew how crushed he was but I couldn’t tell anyone.”

Shirley shares Mark with her ex-husband Corky Ballas, who is also a retired ballroom dancer. Shirley and Corky were married for over two decades, saying 'I do' in 1985 before splitting in 2007.
