Four ways save money by giving old candle jars a new lease of life | The Sun

IF you’re a fan of flickering candles, you’re probably left with a load of sooty, waxed-up jars.

But they can be given a new lease of life, for all sorts of different uses.

Here are some bright ideas to get you started . . .

TOP OF THE POTS: Freeze the jar for a few hours to remove leftover wax — then use the cleaned jar to store stationery.

It will be perfect for pens, paper clips and mini-magnets.

While you’re at it, fill it with loose coins and other odds and ends.

TIME TO ACT

Thousands of households have just DAYS left to claim £125 free cash from bank

Or you can use it in the bathroom to store loose face pads, hairbands and cotton buds.

LOOKING GLASS: The clear glass makes a great starting point for a small display ornament.

Fill jars with pretty shells, shiny stones or, best of all, a collection of sea glass gathered at the beach.

Or fit a string of micro fairy lights inside each jar for a sparkling display.

GO GREEN: Use jars as pots for mini- plants — but they have no drainage, so add a layer of gravel beneath a topping of compost.

Avoid moisture-loving plants that need lots of water and choose cacti or mini-succulents instead.

You could also use a collection of jars to create a windowsill herb garden.

Rosemary and thyme don’t need much water.

PAINT IT PRETTY: Glass paint can totally transform a plain jar, which can then be reused with a tealight as a new adornment for the home.

For budding artists, the glass is the perfect blank canvas on which to create intricate designs and let the imagination run wild.

Even those who are less confident with paint can add simple patterns to create an interesting new look.

Vertical lines, dots and flowers are easy for anyone to do.

Use gold or silver, and festive shapes, to create a new look in time for Christmas.
