Harry Judds life away from music from stunning home to childrens unique names

McFly fans are in for a treat this week, as one of the band’s stars, drummer Harry Judd returns to our TV screens in the BBC challenge series Celebrity Race Across the World.

The 37 year old star, who will be joined by his mum Emma Judd, 63, for the trip, will be attempting to travel from Marrakech, Morocco, all the way to Tromsø, Norway in the hopes of beating their celebrity competitors and claiming the coveted win.

With their journey taking them across 24 countries in total and covering more than 10,000km, there will be plenty of nail biting twists and turns for the duo as the series unfolds.

But what exactly is Harry’s life like when he’s not jetting across the world or performing with McFly?

Early Life

Born on 23 December 1985, Harry first started his life in Chelmsford, Essex as the youngest child of Emma and Christopher Judd.

Harry, along with his two older siblings, was brought up in the local area, before he began his formal education at Old Buckenham Hall, a preparatory school in the village of Brettenham, Suffolk.

He later went on to attend Dame Bradbury's School, a preparatory school in Saffron Walden, Essex, and Uppingham School, a private boarding school in Uppingham, Rutland.

It was while studying at Uppingham, that Harry first befriended future Busted member Charlie Simpson, and even began a promising career as a batsman after discovering a love of cricket.

However, he soon gave up on any sporting future after his real passion for music became his new calling.

Music Career

Given his close friendship with Busted ’s Charlie, it may come as no surprise to discover that Harry appeared in the band’s music video for their 2003 single Crashed the Wedding, giving the aspiring singer his first taste of stardom – something which left him wanting more.

As a result, Harry auditioned to be part of McFly, and along with Tom Fletcher, Dougie Poynter and Danny Jones successfully formed the band that very same year.

Immediately taking the UK – and later the world – by storm, the band began to release hit after hit, with legions of fans across the globe keen to listen to their music.

In fact, the band was so successful they even beat The Beatles for the Guinness World Record for youngest band to debut an album at number one!

Since finding success at the top of the music industry, the band has been certified for 2 million albums and 2.4 million singles in the UK, with more than 10 million records recorded worldwide.

In addition, as of 2016, McFly have had 18 consecutive UK top 20 singles, seven of which debuted at number one, and fifteen of which were consecutive top ten singles.

Adorable Family

As well as his musical success, Harry has also experienced the joy of fatherhood, not once, but three times in total.

Harry, along with his wife most recently welcomed their youngest child Lockie Magnus Christopher Judd in October 2021, following hot on the heels of older siblings Lola and Kit.

Back in 2022, it was revealed that both Lola and Kit, then aged 6 and 4 respectively, were showing clear signs of an interest in music – something that delighted their parents, given they were both professional musicians.

While Harry is well known for performing with McFly, Izzy is a classically trained violinist who previously performed as part of electronic string quartet Escala.

Harry told the PA news agency: “My wife is a musician as well. She is a classically trained violinist so I am very grateful for her because it more comes from her.

“She is a proper musician. I stopped doing music theory when I was 12 or 13 whereas she carried right on and studied it at music academies.

“She takes piano practice and violin stuff with Lola, who is thankfully enjoying it, whereas Kit seems to be more interested in the drums.”

Stunning Home

One aspect of Izzy and Harry’s life that continues to intrigue fans, is the couple’s stylish choice of interior design!

Up until 2019, the family had lived in a gorgeous Scandi-inspired home, complete with plenty of nordic influences, however that soon changed when the couple decided to move to a brand new property with their children as they “embarked on a new adventure.”

The new home boasts a variety of unique features, including a bold oxblood red door complete with stained glass windows, while several statement tiles adorn the floor and walls.

With so many mouths to feed, Izzy was thrilled to have a stylish and functional kitchen to prepare delicious meals in (or enjoy a cheeky date night dinner!).

Kitted out with a rustic wooden table and blue kitchen units, the open plan kitchen and dining area is the perfect space for a young family to tuck into a meal.

Elsewhere in the property, a neon sign adorned the wall of the couple’s living room which reads ‘Where we belong…’, while a blush pink sofa appeared to be the perfect spot for Lola and Kit to unwind.

However it is one snap shared by the couple on social media that showcased the organised chaos of raising three little ones that truly resonated with fans.

In the snap, a vast array of toys and clutter could be seen littering the floor of the playroom in a moment that many parents could relate to.

Celebrity Race Across the World

While Harry and his mum are no stranger to life in the spotlight, one area that both mother and son have missed out on over the years, is the freedom to travel extensively.

Speaking to the BBC ahead of his appearance on Celebrity Race Across the World, Harry told the broadcaster: "I never travelled when I was younger. I travelled with the band, but I never properly did backpacking and I always wanted to.

"I think the same applies for my mum; she always wanted to, but started a family when she was 22.”

With this in mind, both stars couldn’t resist the chance to see more of the world by taking part in the latest series of the show.

Opening up about her own decision to participate, Emma added: “I was young and one thing I think that I've missed in my life – not that I regret it – was actually backpacking and going off on an adventure like this.

"So, when Harry had the opportunity come along, I thought what could be better than going on an adventure with my son?"
