Las Vegas teacher sobs as she shares her students’ heartbreaking Christmas wishes – including one who asked for a ‘bag of chips so I won’t feel hungry’ and another who wants ‘slippers to protect me from the cold’

A teacher has broken down in tears after sharing her students’ heartbreaking Christmas wishes.

Cheri Guy, an English teacher at Desert Pines High School, Las Vegas, took to TikTok with the candid clip.

She read some of the wishes aloud which included a ‘bag of chips so I won’t feel hungry’ and ‘slippers to protect me from the cold.’

And other social media users were quick to flood the comments with their support.

In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 90,000 times, Cheri sat in an office as she addressed her followers.

She began: ‘Okay, I’m gonna try to get through this without getting emotional….

‘I don’t want people to think that I’m trying to do this for any reason other than I work at a school where they have a Wishlist program, and they just sent out the spreadsheet with the kids’ Wishlist.

‘And not only do they say what they would like but they say why it’s important to them, and then you can sign up.’

Cheri explained that there were more than 3,000 students at the school as she urged viewers to help out.

Fighting back the tears, she then read through the list: ‘So I’m gonna start at the top.

‘Somebody said they want to make only one wish. This person said for all the wishes to be granted.

‘They didn’t ask for anything, they just wanted everyone to….’

Cheri explained that there were more than 3,000 students at the school as she urged viewers to help out 

Dozens of viewers were quick to show their support as one wrote: ‘Count me in. Would love to help. I was one of those kids myself’

She tailed off before continuing: ‘Anyway, slippers. I would like some black slippers to protect my feet from the cold.

‘A guitar. I mean, yeah, that’s a little pricey, but it says it will make me happy since I used to play the guitar in middle school.

‘I’m literally dying.’

Cheri shed a tear as she went further still: ‘A bag of Takis. They literally put, they want a bag of Takis, and their reason is, it will help me not be hungry.

‘Another one? My one wish. I want my sister to be happy on her birthday. It’s December 5th. Like what?’

Other wishes included a Dutch Bros gift card, Manchester City scarf and Littlest Pet Shop airplane set.

Cheri becomes overwhelmed as she concludes: ‘I gotta stop….

‘Maybe we could do something to try to make some of these things happen because there’s no way, even if all the teachers, picked one student, we couldn’t cover everything.

‘There’s so many students, and they don’t want a lot.’

Another added: ‘I worked with high school students. They’re always overlooked during the holidays and we forget they are still kids.’

And a third simply said: ‘I don’t think I’ve ever cried harder over a TikTok!’

Cheri has since told Today: ‘We have a lot of kids who are in the foster system, we have a lot of kids who are living in poverty.

‘These kids are facing enormous stress outside of the classroom.

‘One of the most incredible things about Wishmas is these kids are realizing that they are loved — and not just by the staff at school, but by strangers around the country (who) care about them and believe in them.’

Cheri explained how 950 students had signed up to the Wishlist and 300 requests had already been granted.

The Desert Pines High School is part of the Clark County School District which accommodates more than 315,787 students – with 59 per cent of them being economically disadvantaged, according to reports.
