Celebrity Race Across The World backlash as fan blast ‘lazy’ famous contestants
Race Across the World: Cathy and Trisha make ferry decision
Celebrity Race Across The World viewers have hit out over the “lazy” celebrities taking part in the BBC series.
Four famous faces have to embark on an epic 10,000km race while ditching their smartphones and credit cards and living off a very tight budget.
Taking on the race are McFly’s Harry Judd and his mum Emma, British racing driver and pundit Billy Monger with his sister, Bonny, singer-songwriter Mel Blatt and her mum, Helene, and Good Morning Britain’s weatherman Alex Beresford with his dad, Noel.
They started off in Morrocco but many of the stars soon ended up using taxis to get around, despite having a small daily budget which was meant to last them until they reached their final checkpoint in Norway.
Viewers were quick to hit out at the celebrity version of the programme and took to Twitter to voice their annoyance.

Paul Brownbill fumed: “I’m sorry, but this is the lazy celeb version if they all get taxis here there and everywhere. Bring back the normal version.” (sic)
Hinn wrote: “Taxis? These clowns realise they have to budget for Norway, right?”
Michael sarcastically said: “I see it’s Taxi Across The World again, then. #raceacrosstheworld.”

Tony James added: “The joys of #raceacrosstheworld was not knowing who anyone, learning their story. This celebrity version is weak.”
However, Adam said: “I like, Harry’s, mum, Emma… She’s gonna help, Harry, a lot more than he’d expect, maybe not physically, but, definitely ‘mentally’!” (sic)
Jon noted: “#RaceAcrossTheWorld Despite the £200 taxi, Mel and her mum obviously saved money elsewhere as they still have 85% of their budget, whereas Harry has 81%, Alex 82% and Billy had 86%.” (sic)
The first episode was meant to be aired earlier this month, but the BBC postponed its release following an earthquake in Morroco.
A spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “In light of the earthquake in Morocco we have taken the decision to postpone the first episode of Celebrity Race Across the World which was filmed in Marrakesh.”
The series is set to have six episodes like the non-celebrity version of the programme which aired earlier this year.
Celebrity Race Across The World continues next Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
