A source told The Sun: "Ram has already been filming his scenes though viewers won’t get to see them for some months. It’s a substantial role, but he’s a seasoned star of multiple dramas." The TV star is no stranger to appearing in soaps and has previously appeared in Holby City, Doctors, Casualty and EastEnders.

More recently, the star featured on BBC One’s Death in Paradise in the role of Nelson Myers., Younger viewers may recognise Ram from his stint on the BBC’s The Story of Tracy Beaker, in which he played 'Flying' Freddie Mercer.

Ed has been at the centre of the drama in Weatherfield lately after finding a dead body on a building site. While working on a new development project, he noticed a digger driver looking troubled and hurried over. Ed's brother Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) then arrived at the site to see Ed talking to a uniformed PC Craig Tinker (Colson Smith).

Ronnie soon found himself peering into the hole where the digger had unearthed a dead body. It was later confirmed that the corpse was Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost). Fans of the ITV soap know that Stephen Reid murdered Leo last year and he's since gone on to kill Teddy Thompkins (Grant Burgin) and Rufus Donahue (Grant Burgin).

However, it looks like Stephen's time could be running out as he tries to convince girlfriend Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) to move to Thailand and leave Weatherfield for good.

Actor Todd Boyce spoke about Stephen's "unmasking" in an exclusive chat with Daily Star at the Inside Soap Awards on Monday (September 25).

"It's a lot of unmasking of Stephen," the actor said. "The more the walls close in, the more I as an actor feel embarrassed because all the other characters are now looking at me!"

Coronation Street continues Monday on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm
