Corries Sarah Platt star Tina OBrien hints at cobbles return for evil Damon Hay
Damon Hay will make his way back to Weatherfield in upcoming Coronation Street scenes, it's been suggested by Sarah Platt actress Tina O'Brien.
Her character is very much wrapped up in the plight of Damon (Ciaran Griffiths), having enjoyed an affair with him earlier in the year while married to Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).
When Sarah's poor husband discovered what was going on behind his back, things took a sharp turn, with fans witnessing Adam's vengeful tactic of tracking down a criminal contact of his. He fabricated a story where Damon was planning on speaking to the police in order to receive lighter sentencing, which resulted in Damon fleeing the cobbles.
Chatting to Metro at the CUREUsher charity event this week, Tina, 40, teased of the soap's future: "There's a lot coming up. Super soap week, there's a lot of things coming to do with Stephen [Reid]. It's going to be very exciting.
"Obviously at the moment Sarah's going through a divorce. I'm not sure if there's too much water under the bridge.
"I have heard a rumour that a certain Damon might be coming back soon, so we'll see."
Ciaran, 40, and Tina also share a close connection in real life. "I've known Tina since we were about 14," revealed the Shameless actor back in April.
"We used to go to drama workshops together so I've really enjoyed doing these scenes with someone I know, someone who gets my humour who I can have fun with.
"It's a bit of an icebreaker and you can have a laugh, play around with the scenes and try things out. She's a great actress, I trust her, some of these scenes can be awkward but with Tina it's sound, we've been playing boyfriend/girlfriend scenes since we were 14!"
Earlier this week, Corrie's Paul Foreman star Peter Ash weighed in on the soap's upcoming gay wedding between his alter-ego and Daniel Brocklebank's Billy Mayhew.
"The wedding is a beacon of bright light. Despite all the negative news that Paul's had since the [motor neurone disease] diagnosis, getting to marry Billy is just great, it's perfect, it's what he wants to do with the time he has left," he noted.
“Paul knows Billy is downplaying his upset about not being able to get married in a church. Actually, Shelly Rossington's death brings out Paul's faith – at the funeral he had a spiritual moment. And wanting to get married in a church has become a bit more of a priority for Paul.
“He wants a church wedding mainly for Billy, because he's devoted his life to the church – that's where he wants to get married. So it's disappointing, especially when there can't be any religious music. Billy's downplaying it, but Paul really is a bit upset he can't have any of that at their wedding."
The pair will tie the knot at The Bistro instead.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
