Emmerdale's Charley Webb reveals she misses legendary co-stars after exit
Former Emmerdale star Charley Webb is currently a very busy woman as she’s preparing to embark on a nationwide tour of the play Quiz, in which she has a starring role. Her fans will also be able to see her in upcoming ITV drama The Long Shadow.
Charley played Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale for almost 20 years. The character was originally introduced as the foster daughter of Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and his then wife Emily (Kate McGregor). It was then revealed that her parents were Charity (Emma Atkins) and Cain (Jeff Hordley).
Debbie was involved in some huge storylines over the years, including her daughter Sarah (Katy Hill)’s health issues, being caught up in the Woolpack siege in 2013 and her affair with Ross Barton (Michael Parr).

Charley is married to Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden, who has recently announced his departure from the show where he’s played David Metcalfe since 2006. The couple met on set and began dating a year after Matthew joined the soap. He proposed on Christmas Day 2009. The couple got married in 2018 and they share three sons, Buster, Bowie and Ace.
Charley revealed on Instagram that she was excited and ready for the play, which opens on Friday September 22 in Chichester before going on tour.
She said, ‘I’ve been so excited to announce this. I’ll be making my stage debut in Quiz as Diana Ingram, written by the amazing James Graham. We’re opening in @chichesterft on Friday 22nd September and we’ll be going on tour for 9 weeks to some amazing theatres. Very nervous but very excited. Link in my bio. Who’s coming?’
The play is about the ‘coughing scandal’ that rocked the quizzing world when a million pound winner was accused of cheating to win the prize. Charley will play Diana Ingram alongside Lewis Reeves, Mark Benton and Rory Bremner.
Speaking to OK! Magazine she said that learning lines for Emmerdale for so many years means that she’s quick to learn lines – but the problem might be retaining what she’s learned.
“For Emmerdale you’d have to learn your lines so quickly, your brain was just, “Learn, delete, learn, delete, learn, delete,”’ she shared. ‘Learning this script has been more difficult because I’ve got to learn it and then keep it in my brain for a longer time.’
On the subject of Emmerdale, she also said that there were two of her co-stars she missed ‘every day’ – her former on-screen parents.
‘I miss working with Emma Atkins and Jeff Hordley every day,’ she said. ‘But I see them a lot.’
The next TV appearance for Charley will be in the ITV drama The Long Shadow, which focuses on the victims of serial killer Peter Sutcliffe.
The star-studded cast also includes former Coronation Street legend Katherine Kelly as well as Toby Jones, David Morrissey, Lee Ingleby and Shaun Dooley.
