Explosive horror as Emmerdale’s Charles exposes violent side in public attack
After his dad’s death, Charles (Kevin Mathurin) disappeared from the village under the burden of his guilt in accidentally instigating Victor’s death, but that meant leaving his loved ones to shoulder their grief alone in Emmerdale.
No one knows where he is, and the funeral is fast approaching. With no signs of him returning, Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) and Ethan (Emile John) agree to do what they can to help Claudette (Flo Wilson). Manpreet tries to support Claudette as best she can, and for a moment there seems to be a connection between them.
But this only serves to pique Manpreet’s guilt – she knows Charles’ secret and can see the damage it is doing for Claudette to believe Victor died a thief instead of a man framed by his own son.
The guilt mounts for Manpreet and in a desperate attempt to get some relief, leaves a voicemail for Charles, pleading for him to come home. It does the trick and Charles returns, realising he needs to face the music. He is ready to tell his mum exactly what he did.

But before he can there’s another bump in the road – Claudette starts singing his praises, and now he can’t imagine telling her the truth as it’ll break her heart. Instead, he turns on his heels and leaves.
There’s only one place this pent-up angst, guilt and fear can go, and it’s a place that will threaten Charles’ position in the church – the pub. He heads to the Woolpack to drink away his sorrows and Tom (James Chase) becomes concerned at seeing their vicar in such a state.
Tom tries to sympathise with his loss, but Charles takes umbrage, and things rapidly escalate as a drunken Charles lashes out at Tom. The vet tries to defend himself, but everyone is shocked to see meek and mild Charles pin Tom against the bar.
Everyone enjoying their gin and sodas is aghast at his behaviour, but that doesn’t prevent Charles dropping some threats. His family arrives and sense washes over him, causing him to release terrified Tom.
Charles runs again, but this time Manpreet catches up with him and reads him the riot act. It’s time he finally came clean, but will he?
