Angela Rippon spills Strictly Come Dancing secret

Helen Skelton was forced to intervene during an interview on Morning Live after Angela Rippon let slip a Strictly Come Dancing secret.

Angela will make her debut on the BBC dance contest on Saturday and viewers will see who she has been partnered with for the 2023 series.

While the celebrity pairings have been kept a secret until the launch show, Angela accidentally revealed she was dancing with a man.

As she discussed how training was going, Angela told Helen and her co-star Gethin Jones: “I am feeling fine, I am getting quite excited about it.

“I must admit when they first asked me as I’ve said several times, the first words out of my mouth were, ‘Why didn’t you ask me at least 10 years ago when I was a bit younger?’ Because this is the first time they’ve ever asked me to do it.”

She continued: “I’ve been very apprehensive about it, of course I have, I’m pragmatic about the fact that I am the age that I am and there are some fantastic dancers.

“I mean, you will know this, Helen, when you get to meet everybody at the very beginning, and you see everybody and you think, ‘Oh my crikey, doesn’t that one dance well?’ and I think, ‘Am I going to be able to do this?’

“I started training properly yesterday because we’ve already recorded the show which is going out on Saturday.

“It is packed with the most amazing stuff you will just love it. But it’s where you see who our partners are and kind of get a flair for what we are doing.”

“Are you happy with your partner?” Gethin probed as Angela beamed: “I adore him, he is super, I love him.”

“Or her,” Helen interrupted as Angela insisted: “No, no!”

The BBC host went on: “You can’t say, you never know, we are not allowed to give away any clues.”

“Oh, all right,” Angela replied as Helen tried to move the conversation forward.

She said: “The thing that I’m looking forward to is everybody knows you because you’ve been on our telly screens for so long.

“You’re such a professional, but Strictly has a way of stripping it back, and I can’t wait for people to see.

“I mean, you’re wonderful onscreen but off-screen, you’re so warm and lovely and welcoming and I can’t wait for people to get to see that side of you. But are you ready to sort of bear it all? Emotionally?”

“Well, I think you have to, don’t you?” Angela explained. “It is part of the process.”
