I’m A Celeb’s Jamie Lynn Spears’ husband Jamie Watson was sued after three killed when his truck blocked major motorway | The Sun

JAMIE Lynn Spears’ husband was accused of causing a fatal crash that claimed the lives of three people when his truck blocked a major motorway.

Jamie Watson’s uninsured trailer truck got stuck in a ditch while turning into a private driveway, obstructing both ways on the US-51 near Fluker, Louisiana, where the family live, according to legal documents uncovered by The Sun.

While an oncoming 18-wheeler – driven by a man named Corey David – managed to stop in time, another driver Kaleb Collette was allegedly speeding in his Chevrolet Silverado pickup and ended up rear-ending David, according to the lawsuit, which has now been settled.

The horror crash resulted in the death of Collette, 28, and his passengers Lee Ross, 27, and Kenneth Parnell, 27.

Details of the crash emerged as Britney Spear's sister Jamie Lynn, who has been married to Watson, 41, since 2014, is in the Australian jungle starring in this year's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

The tragedy unfolded on 11 July 2016 and, a year later, 18-wheeler driver David, who suffered physical and mental injuries, filed a lawsuit against Watson, Kaleb’s mother Melinda Collette, and the insurance companies of all involved, including the insurer of his own rental truck.

Watson's trucking business, Fluker Transportation LLC, were also co-defendants.

In his petition, David blamed Collette, but also stated that "the collision was caused solely and by the gross and flagrant recklessness, carelessness, negligence and fault of [Jamie] Watson” and listed eight road violations including “obstructing a highway of commerce in a criminally negligent manner”.

A copy of what David described as Fluker Transportation’s policy with its insurers was filed as a court exhibit, which according to court reports, included an exclusion form signed by Watson, stating that “none of the insurance coverages afforded by this policy” shall apply to him.

It appears that being uninsured helped in getting Watson removed from the lawsuit, which was eventually settled by David’s insurers.

An argument raged between David and his insurers as to who was at fault, with the latter keen to pin the blame on Watson, the legal papers show.

'NO ONE TO BLAME'

There were no citations in relation to the accident and a police report stated that no one was to blame.

Watson was eventually dismissed from the suit by David’s attorneys, who stated in a court doc that "it was discovered that the Silverado operated by Kaleb Collette was 100% at fault and completely uninsured."

The document added: "It was also learned that the Fluker vehicle [driven by Jamie Watson] beared no liability, whatsoever, for the incident in question… counsels for the plaintiff dismissed Fluker from the suit."

David's insurers Nationwide demanded in legal papers that he be allowed to “pursue the claim he knows he has against Fluker” stating that "if the Fluker vehicle had not driven into a ditch, and blocked the roadway, the subject accident would not have occurred.”

Five years after the crash, in May 2021, the case was eventually settled between David and Nationwide.

GRIEVING DAD'S LAWSUIT

Jamie's firm Fluker Transportation was also sued for damages by the father of one of the crash victims, who blamed Watson and David for the accident, but that case was also settled.

He and Jamie Lynn had been married just under two years at the time of the crash.

A couple of years later the couple had daughter Ivey Joan, five.

Jamie Lynn, who also has a daughter Maddie Briann Aldridge, 15, with her ex partner Casey Aldridge, opened up about her teen pregnancy to campmate Fred Sirieix during Monday night's show.
