ITV Coronation Streets Amy star teases exciting Barlow Christmas as she grows closer to Aadi
With December now well and truly in full swing, many Coronation Street fans have already begun to turn their attention towards the festive season and some of the most hotly anticipated scenes of the year.
In years gone by, Christmas on the cobbles has seen everything from romantic weddings through to heartwarming births, and even a few harrowing deaths take place. And it looks like this year will also be keeping with tradition, according to Amy Barlow actress Elle Mulvaney.
Speaking exclusively to OK! at this year's ITV Palooza, the 21 year old star teased fans with a peek at what they can expect from her character in the coming weeks.
Elle said: “We’ve obviously seen last week’s episodes with Amy and Aadi kissing, Amy kidnapping somebody – I mean, it’s all been going on in classic soap fashion!
“So I think what we’re going to see is Amy and Aldi start to grow a bit closer – and also we’ve got a really exciting Barlow Christmas. That’s all I can say – but it’ll be interesting.”
Reflecting on her action-packed scenes as of late, which involved a terrifying rape plot and fight for justice, Elle revealed how privileged she felt to have been trusted to take on such serious and gripping storylines, after having previously only been a part of lighter, more family friendly arcs.
The star explained: “It’s been great (to do action packed stuff.) And I think it’s nice, I’ve obviously grown up on the show, so it’s nice to to have been given the nod of confidence that says ‘we trust you, we want you to big things.’”
Elle then continued: “It’s just exciting! Adam’s been great to work with, who plays Aadi, so we’ve been really fortunate that the writing’s been brilliant and the direction was brilliant.
“We were just really lucky and it’s been great fun! You get to spend the night working with your mate, having a laugh.”
She then concluded: “And the guy that played Dan as well, George in real life, is a gem! So, so, lovely. So we just had fun, a good time. And I think it’s just nice to do something a bit different.”
During the same interview, Elle, who was joined by her co-star Jodie Prenger, who plays Glenda Shuttleworth, also teased the potential for a future on BBC show Strictly Come Dancing, after the success of her close pal Ellie Leach on the show.
After praising Ellie for being “sensational” to watch, Jodie cheekily admitted: "I’d be awful on Strictly.”
“I could probably make a few posh frocks and sequins, but I don’t think I’d suit the fake tan – I’ve not got the skin for it! I’d always end up streaky!”
Elle herself also seemed to have shot down any rumours of taking part in the show, as she confessed: “I’d fall!”
However Jodie had other ideas, and was quick to hype up her co-star as she countered: “No, you’d be good at it!”
Could she be the next star to follow in Ellie’s footsteps?
Coronation Street continues Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV and ITVX
