ITV Emmerdale fans predict ‘heartbreaking’ twist in David Metcalfe exit after double betrayal

Emmerdale viewers have predicted serious heartbreak to come in David Metfcalfe's exit story from the ITV soap, as the shopkeeper (played by Matthew Wolfenden, who recently announced he and wife Charley Webb had split up,) finally discovered the truth about his stepson Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) secretly having a relationship with his ex Victoria Sugden (Isobel Hodgins).

Unfortunately, only a day after celebrating his birthday and finding out what his university-age stepson was doing behind his back, David was faced with the devastating realisation that his dad Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) has also been lying to him.

As the struggling dad had it out with Jacob in the shop, and both of them couldn't stop crying, an upset Eric got the wrong end of the stick and thought they were arguing about the fact he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

As a result, Eric announced the truth to the pair, leaving David stunned into silence as he realised he'd been betrayed twice by the people closest to him in his family.

As David broke down in tears outside the shop, his mental health was in tatters and he had no idea who he had left to trust.

"What you've done, you and her, I must mean absolutely nothing to you," David sobbed to Jacob, before telling his stepson and dad that they all "got it wrong".

"It's pretty obvious how little my family think of me," the character added, before escaping the argument.

With the actor sadly departing the village, which is also about to see Tracy embark on an affair with Caleb, during Thursday night's instalment, David could sadly be a risk to himself or others, as fans hold their breaths in anticipation for his exit from the soap.

Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their thoughts on what's to come for the character's impending exit.

"David is fuming so here comes his downfall and exit I would imagine #Emmerdale," one person posted.

Another fan guessed: "So after this bombshell and then finding out about Eric could possibly push David too far #Emmerdale."

"It's actually heartbreaking that David found out about his dad at the same time, the tears were too much #emmerdale," a third viewer wrote.

While a fourth said: "David’s having a belter of a day. #Emmerdale," followed by: "Poor David Poor, poor b*****d #emmerdale," and: "Poor David, actually feel sorry for him. Cant see it ending well #emmerdale."

Others were convinced that finding out Jacob has been secretly seeing Victoria will actually cause Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) to lose it in potentially dramatic scenes.

"#Emmerdale forget David it’s Layla they want to worry about. Layla going to ruin Victoria over this," one person said.

Another said sadly: "Honestly I feel for David this time, because it's bound to be reopening old wounds with Maya #Emmerdale."

"Eric going to have a heart attack #emmerdale," another fan guessed grimly.
