ITV Emmerdales Steve Halliwells moving final post – as Zak Dingle star dies aged 77
It has been announced that Emmerdale star Steve Halliwell, who played Zac Dingle on the ITV soap, passed away aged 77 on Friday, 15 December, and now his final social media post has been revealed.
The actor, who had portrayed the popular character since 1994 and was Emmerdale's second longest-serving cast member as of 2023, hadn't shared anything to his X/Twitter profile since September 2020.
But his final posts were when he took a moment to share two incredible scenic snaps that he appeared to capture while on an early morning walk.
Steve appeared to have stopped to photograph the clouds on the horizon on a misty day as he enjoyed a stroll in the great outdoors.
The two poignant images that Steve shared gave off a feeling of peace and tranquility.
The actor formed part of one of Emmerdale's best known families, the Dingles, which also included Jane Cox, Lisa Riley and Jeff Hordley.
At the time of posting in 2020, Steve captioned the photos, writing: "Pretty morning walking up to seeing clouds in the horizon."
The look back to Steve's last social media post comes after his family sadly announced on Friday, 15 December that he had died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.
Steve's cause of death has not been confirmed.
The actor's family said: "He went to sleep, peacefully with his loved ones around him. He was making us laugh to the end, the most amazing father and grandfather you could ever wish for, family was everything to him.
"We would like to thank the wonderful staff at St James Hospital and the Wheatfield Hospice for their love and kindness in his final days. He didn't want sadness, just to rejoice in a life well lived."
ITV also paid tribute to the star, adding: "It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that Emmerdale can confirm that Steve Halliwell, our beloved Zak Dingle, has peacefully passed away.
"All our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones through this very difficult time, and we’d request that their privacy is respected as they grieve for his loss.
"Steve will forever be synonymous with Emmerdale. The proud defender and head of the Dingle family. Heart and humour in all he did, it has been and always will be impossible not to smile when you think of him."
Then on Friday night, fans were left heartbroken and confused as the show didn't air a tribute to the soap legend.
At the end of the first episode to air since Steve passed away, the ITV soap failed to share a special memorial in honour of his 29 years on the soap, something which is usually customary following the death of a cast member.
So fans took to social media to express their sorrow at the loss of the second longest serving cast member on the show, that had been a staple of Emmerdale life for three decades
