My granddad brought home some old whiskey bottles from the pub – I was floored to find out they were worth thousands | The Sun

AN Antiques Roadshow guest covered her mouth in shock when she discovered the value of three bottles of whiskey had granddad had brought home from the pub.

Sunday's episode of the BBC show took place at Clissold Park and saw expert John Foster meet a lady who had brought in three bottles of Johnnie Walker whiskey.

She told John: "They've been in my possession for 50 years, but they came into our house in the 1950s.

"My grandfather brought them home one day, to the horror of my grandmother and said 'look what I've got.'"

She added how the landlord was closing down the pub and offered the whiskey's to her granddad.

But her grandmother wasn't impressed and the women recalled: "She said 'What am I going to do with those?' and they've been put away ever since."

They had been in the attic ever since, which John said was "not great" as there had been some evaporation and so it would affect things "a bit".

But after discussing the history of Johnnie Walker, John started to discuss the value of each bottles going by the labels.

He said: "Really you're looking at about £1,000…."

As the guest nodded, he added: "For that one" and tapped the top of the bottle with the red label.

He then moved on to the rarer white label bottles and said: "These two, the levels are low, the labelling is better on one than it is on the other, you can see there it's got a bit of damage but it's got the nice white label.

"These ones would be about £7,000."

The guest puffed her cheeks and blew air out of her mouth in shock, but then John added: "Per bottle."

She covered her mouth in shock as the public stood around her all gasped in surprise at the twist.

As she giggled, she said: "Oh wow! That's unbelievable isn't it? They've been up in the loft in a box."
