New Mean Girls Movie Now Going Theatrical
EXCLUSIVE: Deadline can tell you first that the new Mean Girls movie that Paramount has been prepping for Paramount+ is going theatrical. The release date is Jan. 12, 2024 – that’s the MLK 4-day holiday weekend.
There will be a big marketing play here for the film. This is the second time in recent memory that Paramount has changed up a Paramount+ release for the big screen, the last being last fall’s big hit Smile.

The new pic stars Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Auli’i Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, Tina Fey, Tim Meadows, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Avantika, Mahi Alam, Christopher Briney, Bebe Wood, Ashley Park, Connor Ratliff and Jon Hamm.
Arturo Perez and Samantha Jayne are directing the new film, from a script by Fey. Broadway Video’s Lorne Michaels has returned to produce alongside Fey, with Erin David, Caroline Maroney and Micah Frank overseeing for Broadway Video, alongside Eric Gurian and Jeff Richmond for Little Stranger.
Meanwhile, we understand Paramount’s Bob Marley biopic One Love is moving from Jan. 12 to Feb. 14 next year.
Also opening against Mean Girls on Jan. 12 is Sony’s The Book of Clarence, MGM’s The Beekeeper and an untitled New Line event film.
The original Mean Girls movie directed by Mark Waters and penned by Fey off of Rosalind Wiseman’s novel; grossed over $130M worldwide and blasted off the careers of Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried while also repping a box office hit for Lindsay Lohan at the time.
