Why isn’t Amanda Abbington on Strictly this weekend?
Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice have pulled out of this weekend’s live Strictly Come Dancing show, it has been announced.
The actress was set to perform the Cha Cha Cha to Canned Heat by Jamiroquai on Saturday evening as part of week five’s show, but she is no longer taking to the ballroom dance floor with Giovanni.
It Takes Two host Janette Manrara made the shock announcement on Friday’s instalment of the Strictly spin-off series on BBC Two.
Janette told viewers: “Unfortunately, due to medical reasons, Amanda will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.
“Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week.

“Amanda, we hope you get well soon my love! Sending you all the best wishes,” Janette added as she blew a kiss at the camera in a sweet gesture for the Sherlock actress.
A Strictly Come Dancing spokesperson confirmed Amanda has had to pull out of the show for “medical reasons”.
“Due to medical reasons Amanda Abbington will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend,” they told The Mirror.
However, they have not clarified what the “medical reasons” impacting the 49-year-old are at this stage.

Will Amanda return next week?
According to a Strictly spokesperson, Amanda is set to return to the programme next week, but it is yet to be confirmed whether she will give her Cha Cha Cha another try.
They said: “Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week.”
The star might have to learn a new dance for week six as her competitors who make it through this weekend’s show will have to start from scratch with new routines.
Express.co.uk has contacted the BBC for comment on the matter.
Strictly Come Dancing – The Professionals Tour is hitting the road once again in May 2024, with a star-studded line-up. Dianne Buswell, Graziano Di Prima, Gorka Marquez and Nancy Xu are just a few of the names hitting cities around the country, including London, Cardiff, Liverpool and Brighton to name just a few.
It comes a week after Amanda and Giovanni scored 31 points for their Foxtrot to the Fleetwood Mac song Everywhere which landed them high up on the leaderboard.
Strictly fans flocked to social media following the announcement, with one fan writing: “She must be gutted! Imagine learning a dance all week for no reason. I hope that they release the rehearsal run-through or something, from the clips on ITT it looked really good and was gonna be a really technical Cha Cha.”
Another penned: “Absolutely gutted, her and Giovanni are my faves so gonna be quite boring for me tomorrow. Does anyone know if she’ll be doing the same dance that she was supposed to be doing this week, or next week?”
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
