Strictly fans share same complaint as they slam rigged Angela Rippon scores

Fans of Strictly Come Dancing were unimpressed on Saturday night (November 11) as Angela Rippon's dance moves were praised, despite her evident mistake.

The 79-year-old came under fire once again as viewers spotted that she made vital errors during her routine to Madonna's hit song, Hung Up. Angela and her dance partner Kai Widdrington danced an energetic Paso Doble which received an amazing response from all four judges.

Head judge Shirley Ballas highlighted Angela's mistake on the dance floor but told her it didn't matter. Shirley said: "You, young lady, are about content, content, content, you got out there and you did the job."

This was followed by an excited Motsi Mabuse who also critiqued Angela's routine favourably and told her: "This Paso is going to Blackpool." The judges then scored Angela and Kai 32 points out of 40.

But fans at home felt completely opposite to the judges. So much so, that some complained that the judges were trying to desperately see Angela go through to Blackpool next weekend.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer fumed: "Ridiculous. Angela slipped. She couldn’t step with conviction. The judges wouldn’t let anyone else away with it – even previous contestants with prosthetic limbs or hearing impairments. The judges are embarrassing themselves."

Another theorised: "The producers have definitely got some Come Dancing stuff planned for Angela in Blackpool and come hell or high water they are making sure she gets there." A third claimed: "The BBC seem hellbent on getting Angela Rippon to Blackpool."

Meanwhile, another viewer complained: "Motsi and Shirley standing up to make sure the audience knows that Angela of course needs to make Blackpool. It’s so rigged."

However some viewers backed Angela and reminded those online about her age. One fan wrote: "Age shouldn’t come in to it but I can’t get away from the fact that Angela Rippon is 79. To deliver that performance is nothing short of extraordinary."

Fans have been speculating that producers are keen to see Angela in Blackpool next week due to her iconic link to the location and the show. Angela was once the face of BBC programme, Come Dancing, as she presented Strictly's predecessor.

The popular programme was filmed in Blackpool however, none of the contestants were celebs or professional dancers. Given Angela's presenting history, fans at home have been left speculating whether producers had their hand in the decision to keep her on the show for another week.
