Strictly Come Dancing star Krishnan Guru-Murthy admitted his pro dancer Lauren Oakley “offered to slap him across the face” moments before their final dance.
Over the weekend, the Channel 4 newsreader found himself in the dance-off against Angela Rippon and her dance partner Kai Widdrington. Despite their best efforts and wowing the viewers with their samba to Bamboléo by Gipsy Kings, the dancing duo became the latest celebrity to be booted from the BBC One dance competition.
For the first time this series, the judges were torn over which couple to send through to Blackpool. Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke chose to save Angela while Shirley Bassey opted to save the beloved broadcaster.
But with three votes to one, the dad-of-two was eliminated from the competition. As the heartbroken dance partners joined Fleur East in the BBC studios one last time on It Takes Two, Krishnan revealed what it was like in the moments leading up to the terrifying dance-off.
He confessed: "By the time you get to the red light you’ve had a lot of time to think about it so all your tension, all your adrenaline is gone after you’ve danced. So you’ve got to try and wind yourself back up and get yourself in the zone.
"Lauren’s going, ‘Focus, focus’, she actually offered to slap me across the face at one point just as I'm about to [dance]," he revealed. Lauren was utterly shocked at his admission and immediately clarified: "No not in a mean way!
"I was like, ‘You really need to wake up – do you want me to smack you? What do you need?’" Krishnan couldn't help but joke: "It's our normal warm-up" as the brunette beauty fumed: "Stop it! I feel so mean now!"
