Stephen Fry rushed to hospital with injuries after horror fall from stage

Stephen Fry has been rushed to hospital with injuries after he suffered a shock fall whilst on stage at the CogX Festival.

The 66 year old had been giving a talk at London's O2 arena last week when he fell six feet off the edge of the stage to the floor, where he suffered blows to his ribs and his legs.

It is understood that Stephen had finished his talk when the accident happened.

A source has told the Daily Mail: "It looked like it was too dark, and there didn't look like there was a handrail.

"He fell two metres to the floor. He looked to have been hurt as he had to leave in a wheelchair."

OK! have contacted Stephen's representatives for comment.

Since the fall, Stephen has been silent on social media despite being a prolific poster before the incident.

The organisers of the CogX Festival have said that they have launched an investigation into what happened.

A spokesperson for the event has said: "We were deeply concerned to hear of Stephen's accident after giving his inspirational speech on the impact of AI.

"We are thinking of him and wishing him a swift recovery. We have opened our own enquiry, and until then, we are not able to share any further details."

While Greenwich Council has said they have been told about the incident, and they are debating opening their own investigation into what happened.

They said: "The Council has received an accident report following an event last week at the O2, and is considering whether any further investigations are needed."

One person who was in attendance when the fall happened took to Twitter to wish Stephen well after the dramatic moment.

They wrote: "Thank you for the superb talk at CogX.

"I hope you are ok also after a tumble. Your talk was one of the best, and made me think about my role a lot."

The huge event was billed as having over 500 speakers, and it spanned over three days at the historic venue.

It had been advertised as having an audience of 90,000, and the festival said that the audience members would have the chance to "'Engage with the best in thought leadership from around the world."

Stephen took to the stage on the morning of Wednesday, 20 September, and he was the first big-name star on the final day of the festival.
