Strictly’s Amy Dowden ‘gutted’ after update on cancer battle as co-stars react

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has told fans she’s “truly gutted” in a latest health update.

The professional dancer, 33, announced in May that she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. It meant that she has been forced to pull out of taking part in this year's series of the BBC show.

Amy was also made to undergo a mastectomy a month later in June. But the horror was not over for the Welsh star, as doctors had discovered another form of cancer elsewhere in her body.

She then started having chemotherapy treatment in order to kill off the cancer. Amy also recently made the heartbreaking decision to shave her hair to stop the cancer from taking it from her.

And now, the dancer has revealed to fans she’s “gutted” after not being able to attend an event in her hometown. And her loyal legion of fans soon railed round.

Taking to her Instagram, she shared a snap of her at home on the sofa. In the caption, she wrote: “Snuggled up rrrrready for tonight’s @bbcstrictly results show! Always love Halloween week on strictly (although very different watching from the sofa, but still a brilliant show and so proud of all my fabulous fellow pros).”

Amy added: “Want to say a massive thank you to all involved in ‘turning Caerphilly pink for Amy’. From raising money, raising awareness with leaflets and tools galore, dance performances from where it all began for me @shappelles, pink cakes and milkshake sales, you name it.

“Thank you all. Can't tell you what it means to me and my family! Just gutting I couldn't be there by forever grateful,” she said.
