‘Spider-Man 2’ Sets Record As Fastest-Selling PlayStation Studios Game
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has made history as the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever. The Insomniac Games title sold 2.5 million copies globally within 24 hours of its launch on Friday, October 20.
The feat is even more impressive, considering Spider-Man 2 is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, unavailable on any other console. It was Sony’s first game to roll out solely to the PS5 without being compatible with the PS4.
Sony noted in its announcement that the 2.5 million also includes pre-orders that may have not been shipped or possibly haven’t arrived to their owners just yet. Given that there have been around 40 million PS5 consoles sold, the number of Spider-Man 2 sales is still quite the feat.
“With an epic storyline, two playable Super Heroes, a visually-stunning Marvel’s New York, and so much more, this is a game you can get lost in for hours,” Sony’s SVP of Global Marketing, Sales and Business Operations Eric Lempel said.
“On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, I want to say thank you to the fans – we truly hope you are enjoying your time playing as Peter and Miles in this amazing adventure.”
In other gaming news, Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 will receive a new Game Plus Mode later this year.
