A24 Reveals Trailer for ‘Occupied City’

It seems that A24’s portfolio is never-ending with high-caliber movies consistently hitting the silver screen. Now the independent entertainment company has revealed the trailer for its upcoming film, Occupied City.

Directed and produced by Steve McQueen, the movie is inspired by Bianca Stigter’s book, Atlas of an Occupied City. The film details the role of the German occupation of Amsterdam in the 1940s. Specifically, it discusses the inhumane acts committed against the local Jewish community – including exclusion from public life, deportation and more. In illustrating this history, the movie moves throughout present-day Amsterdam.

“The past collides with our precarious present in Steve McQueen’s bravura documentary Occupied City. McQueen creates two interlocking portraits: a door-to-door excavation of the Nazi occupation that still haunts his adopted city, and a vivid journey through the last years of pandemic and protest. What emerges is both devastating and life-affirming, an expansive meditation on memory, time, and where we’re headed,” read an A24 excerpt.

With a runtime of four hours and twenty-two minutes, Occupied City is set to release in theaters on December 25. Take a first look at the movie above.
