Stunning 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series Surfaces at Auction

A gorgeous example of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series recently surfaced at a Bring A Trailer auction and at the time of writing has sold for $705,000 USD — with only 2,600 miles on the odometer, the vehicle stands out as a gem of luxury sports cars and a desirable collectible for any enthusiast.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series, first unveiled at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, is known for its exceptional performance and design. It stands out as the fifth Black Series model developed by AMG, renowned for its superior engineering and craftsmanship. It’s worth noting that this model is 154 pounds lighter than its standard SLS AMG counterpart, primarily due to its extensive use of carbon fiber in the drivetrain, spaceframe and various body components.

This particular example is finished in an Obsidian Black Metallic, complemented by gullwing doors with pop-out handles, bi-xenon headlamps and a striking carbon-fiber rear wing. The vehicle also features straked front fender vents, power-folding mirrors with carbon-fiber caps, Parktronic parking sensors and polished exhaust outlets.

The Black Series sits on top of staggered-width 19” and 20” Y-spoke alloy wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and showcases an AMG Ride Control suspension with electronically controlled two-stage damping and a wider track compared to the standard model. It also features speed-sensitive steering and robust stopping power, as a result of copper-painted calipers and cross-drilled carbon-ceramic rotors.

Despite its focus on performance, the cabin doesn’t leave out the luxury elements that enthusiasts have become accustomed to with Mercedes-Benz. Instead, it features heated power-adjustable AMG sports seats trimmed in black leather and Alcantara, extended carbon-fiber trim, a rearview camera, Keyless-Go, dual-zone automatic climate control and COMAND infotainment with navigation. The Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles frames a 240-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,200-rpm redline and other essential gauges.

Under the hood lies the heart of this Black Series — a hand-assembled 6.2L M159 DOHC V8 engine, tailored for the vehicle with modified camshafts, shorter intake runners and revised valve timing. It produces a formidable 622 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transaxle and a limited-slip differential. All that power is now off to a new home, where we hope it’ll see some drive time and mileage added to that odometer.
